View Full Version : The One - Jet Li - Has anyone seen yet?
I dunno when it's out but just asking to find out if anyone has seen it and if so, is it any good?
When's it out in the UK.....region 1 dvd is out in March
I love it, thought it was brilliant
Its all OTT special effects, I heard the role was originally planned for the Rock not Jet Li....I dont think it would have been as good with the Rock because Jet Li adds to the special effects with his martial art skills!
Ive heard a lot of people say the story was rubbish too, BUT i thought it was a good sci-fi plot
definatley recommended
thnx matey...i will definitely watch it. I love plotless action films with mindless violence and lots of special FX

Can anyone confirm whether or not the dvd of The One is RCE? Play warns that it is/could be. RCE causes my Toshiba 2109 problems, so if it is I guess I will have to wait a few more years for it to hit the cinema over here....

According to http://uk.imdb.com/Recent/UK it's due March 29th, might not be accurate of course...

Don't you use the handset hack/memory thingy, bit of a hassle but not as much of a hassle as waiting ten years for the R2!

Tried it on Charlie's Angels and found it too much of a fiddle. 'Specially since part of the appeal of DVD is the convenient instant access thing! Or maybe I'm just too lazy. I might have to make an exception for The One. Jet Li's too damn good.

I haven't seen it yet, but I will be getting the R1 DVD on 5 March.

I got the film a while back on VCD and i have to say it wasn't bad. The effects and use of bullet-time were good, however, it seems the middle of the film was missing - at 1hr 20m long it just seems to end as its getting going. Its like their budget was cut towards the end of filming - and the DVD doesn't even have deleted scenes on it!
There's a review in my sig link
Also - my friend has that tosh - and just manually selects the first menu or chapter form the remote to bypass RCE - a lot quicker than the hack :D

well according to the answer i received from Hivizone about the Region 3 dvd they said it was probably just the region 1 version as all Columbia Tri-Star dvds released over in region 3 tend to be region 1's rebadged.
So if you really want the film now this may be a decent alternative as it's only £1/£2 more expensive than region 1
Bloomin eck! Just noticed that both Hivizone and DDDHouse are both out of stock already!

Thr R3 DVD has been out for a few days already just in time for chinese new year.
Its an expensive R3 just like Mr. Woo says because its a big studio release columbia tristar.
It is about HK$150 which is about 12 quid.
The quality of the film looks top notch and it does look like it is anamorphically enhance as I was standing outside blockbusters watching it.
The R1 DVD specs also state it will have chinese subtitles on it making it almost certain it will be exactly the same as the R3 disc when it comes out. So if you want to save a few pounds try the R3.
A friend borrowed the VCD copy and the movie is quite good although short as mentioned previously.
The ending is good ... I am Yu Law and I am no one's bitch! ... hehe
all in all although mediocre the movie is jet Li's hollywood's best yet.
one of the cheapest places to import to the UK would be DDDhouse - but that would set u back nearly £20. (its slightly cheaper at Yesasia.com, but shipping is high unless u buy 3/4 more discs and risk customs charges)
I'll wait for the R1 if i decide to buy ot - but probably won't anyway, as u may guess from my review.

Watching this movie I got the impression that Jet Li's english is excellent ... way better than Jackie Chan's and better than chow Yun fat's.

It seems from less practised scenarios, that Jackie's depth of vocabulary is greater (and it should be!), although his rehearsed pronounciations are less natural.
Got the The One from Absound delivered today. Looks like a good DVD, had the 2.35 anamorphic widescreen and 4:3 open matt version of the film on the DVD. No deleted scenes but does have directors commentary and making of feature, plus other extras and it's def not RCE encoded. Got KOTD too today which I think is Jet Li's best effort in Hollwood so far.
My copy of "The One" is currently somewhere between DVDBoxOffice and me, so hopefully I should get it sometime next week. I'm definitely looking forward to it.
I got The One from Play this morning, and considering post to my house has been a little slow recently (as well as a parcelforce package going missing), that's pretty good going. Looks quite entertaining, but will have to wait until mid-week to watch it. :(
Got to admit his accent is pretty good considering he didn't understand a word of english a few years ago, certainly a bit better than CYF and JC. I get the impression from the documentary his lines for the film were kind of like speaking without understanding what he's saying, but what the heck!
I got it from Play this morning too (turning this into the supplier forum), gonna wait for by new big telly in the week to watch it though! Jet is always watchable, I just hope Jason Statham can avoid being one of the most wooden actors I have ever seen. Also glad its not RCE.

I was recently in San Fransico, and while in Chinatown I bought the Video cd of this Movie ($8)
and I usually would not waste my hard earned Wonga on Video cd.
however this is a pretty good offering. very Matrix Like, and some of the fight sequencies are just awesome, (if a bit OTT)
definatly one for your DVD Collections.
also took in some movies over their as well
Collateral Damage. (Typical Arnie Stuff)
Crossroads (Britney in her Undies) whhooooaagghgh
Royal Tenebaums
Bandits (Bruce Willis in top form, Loved it)
