Hi, I've been looking for a new 42inch TV and after some searching about, the Panasonic plasmas seem to be getting excellent reviews from everyone. These are the ones I've narrowed it down to and as far as I can see the only difference between them is that the PX80 is 720p and the PZ80 is 1080p.
I can get the PX80 for £600 delivered and the PZ80 (using Empire Directs discount code) for about £725 delivered. So basically, is the extra £125 worth it for true HD? I think I'd be sitting about 6 - 7 feet from the TV screen normally. Part of me thinks 'I may as well spend the extra' but then I think 'will I even notice the difference?' I'd be mostly using it for watching DVD's and Blu-Ray.
The code runs out on Wed night, so i'm trying to make a decision by then if I can! Thanks for any advice with this :)
One last question... is gaming ok on these TV's or is image retention a big issue with them?
Hi, PX42 owner here, we watch upscaled dvds on ours (scpt460), have yet to take the dip into blu ray, but do play the 360 on it. Brill at everything (even freeview SD) & we're sat probably 7 - 9 ft away from ours. Have a couple of mates with skyHD, 1 has the same set as me, the other has the PZ80 & when I've been to both & sat a similar distance away from thr set, I couldn't tell the paicture apart to be honest. Don't know if that's owt to do with what skyHD is broadcast in or anything though. Personally, I'd go with the PX & spend the difference on important things like cheap women & booze! Whichever you get, you'll be impressed with tbh. Best of luck.
Seriously get the PZ80, bro has a PX80 and a PZ80 and the PZ is so much better with full HD material.
make the decision on how much you will actually end up watching the tv/movies etc Flyer is right, just opt for px80, it's a cracking set. After a week of purchase it will just be another tv to you and you will be thinking of your next purchase...

Hey thanks for all the replies, I appreciate it! Still can't entirely decide, I'll have to try and see them in a store perhaps. Can I just ask again, is gaming ok on these TV's then, it won't burn the screen? 360 sounds great on it if so!
I notice that if Dixons get it in stock, I can get the PZ80 delivered for a tad under £700.... I'm thinking less than £100 notes more is probably worth the 1080p goodness over the PX80.... hmmm! :)
My bro's PX80 is used mainly as a gaming TV and no problems at all with screen burn. You do get some image retention but image retention goes away after a few minutes.
Do make a decision based on gaming too as the PZ80 will need to upscale most 720 games, where as the PX they are native.
Is veeerry nice! Hi, no screen burn whatsoever on ours - so far - just using it on "cinema" until I've got me 200 hours in. may well even leave it on cinema tbh as the picture is great as it is...I'd never buy an ex demo one from a shop as they always have them set to "Dynamic" or something utterly ridiculous to make them stand out. Either set you'll more than happy with...until you've had it a month & start convincing yourself that maybe a 46" or 50" wouldn't actually be as daft as you'd first thought...stop it, stop it, stop it...
