View Full Version : Any cheap digital compacts with hotshoes?

I'm starting to play with off-camera flash, and experimentation costs too much with film - so I've been using my DSLR - but what I'd really like is a digital compact with a hotshoe (or maybe PC socket) and manual aperture adjustment.
A DP1/2 or GRD I/II are way out of my price range - I was hoping 2 figures for something, second hand if needs be...
Any ideas?
Quick squint on eBay (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=44) gives you
Fuji Finepix 4900
Nikon Coolpix 5700
Canon G series from G1 onwards
Nikon COOLPIX P5000/5100
Sony V3 - pound for pound one of the best "compact" cameras I've ever used.

I thought you would have gotten over your nasty Sony habit by now :p
This is coming from the one man Canon roadshow ;) But seriously, I miss using that Sony V3 - infact further to the OP question I used to use it for off camera flash stuff with some cheapo ebay triggers (and, when I was feeling posher my mates Bowens studio lights!).

Manual compacts of any kind seem to be going for ridiculous prices on ebay lately.
I keep bidding on Olympus 530s and it seems you need to be willing to pay well over £70 for one, and a coolpix 5100 is currently £125 with a day to go...

vaguely on this topic, does anyone know of compacts with filter threads for filters and lenses (i used to have a fuji compant that I sellotaped a very cheap camcorder fish eye lens to which gave great results until i accidently smashed both!)

An opportunity's arisen to get a GR-D II with viewfinder for £200 + a pint of bitter, so I can't really turn it down :)
You lucky git!
Despite having a G10 I still lust after a GRD - it's the prime lens and square picture format that really attracts me.
