View Full Version : Sky picture settings
From the 'services', 'picture settings' menu, what settings are you supposed to have Sky on?
4:3 with letterbox on gives you letterbox mode. 16:9 has the picture fill the screen on my widescreen TV, but I don't know if that's right. Aren't i supposed to have lines above and below the picture, even on a widescreen TV?

AET mate,
What is the aspect ratio of your telly. 16:9 perhaps?
You have set sky to 16:9 so as long as sky are broadcasting in this ratio the picture will fill the screen.
People complain when they have black bars and now they complain when they don't.

Also depends on the aspect ratio of the source broadcast of course.
E.g. a film shown as 2.35:1 will have black bars top & bottom.
Anthony, yes I have a 16:9 WSTV.
Wasn't really whinging about not having black bars, I'm just never sure if I'm watching a programme optimally.
16:9 Widescreen TV -
1:85 widescreen = fullscreen.
2:35 widescreen = small black bars top+bottom
4:3 fullscreen = small black bars left+right
Technically that is the way to "optimally" watch your TV. You can stretch the 4:3 mode so the picture fills the screen, though this will result in slight distortion, some TV's handle it better than others. If you have a widescreen TV, Sky should always be set to 16:9. If you have a fullscreen TV then Letterbox. However if you have a fullscreen TV which has an anamorphic widescreen mode then set Sky to 16:9. That should cover everyone
