View Full Version : Spooks series 7, episode 7
Not sure whether there is enough traffic volume to devote to single threads for spooks, just watched episode 7. Excellent episode, if anything this could have been stretched out for a 2 part as the ending felt a little quick/rushed....

I thought it was great too. I also looked at the clock, thought it was going into a two parter and was surprised when it wrapped up so quickly. Shame there's only one ep left.

yes, why such a short series? :( :( :(
I'm shocked at the lack of interest about Spooks on here when we have a massive thread about the frankly dull 24.
I thought this episode was fantastic - I really wasn't expecting another death this season - and so cold.
Connie's 'fava bean' moment to Harry was really well done too - it was like a mask coming off.
It's been a short season - but I'd rather have a few episodes of this outstanding quality than the desperation we're seeing in 24 at the moment.

I think this whole run of Spooks has been absolutely brilliant. Even though I was hardly enthralled at the prospect of Guy of Gisborne taking over from Adam Carter, I think the character has really worked well. Just a shame that 'Ros' isn't half the bitch she used to be
As for Ben Caplin...
Was disappointed that there was no BBC3 showing last night, but I'm guessing that like always the series finale is saved for BBC1.
Can't say I've been impressed by this series, compared to the last couple.

Has to the best episode of the series so far except for the silly bit where police burst in through the window to make an arrest, it would have been more effective if there had been a quite knock at his door as they arrived to arrest him.
And who would have thought the snake in the grass would have been.......well you who saw it will know. Got hissed off in the end though:)
woah, gruesome death there, had my wincing. I wish they had made this a longer episode as it would have been nice to have seen the book shop guy get his come uppance (are we to presume he is also caught?)
Nice bit of classic spy vs spy intrigue rather than terrorist of the week stuff. Was almost suspecting a bit of cyanide-pill-in-a-false-tooth action at the end there. Had it's silly moments but above average ep.

I thought that but I think they went for realism.

I thought it was pretty obvious who it was going to be so wasn't really surprised when it came out. The taking out of Harry was a bit over the top, and for a spook Ben was a bit slow when he found out who the mole was, I would have made an excuse and got the hell out of that room. But still it was the best episode of the series, well written and well acted.
Edit - For some reason people were using the thread for episode 5 to discuss this. Please always start a new thread for each episode. I have moved all those posts into the existing thread.

I just wish they would get rid of Ros, her acting is so wooden, she looks like a grannie wearing her grand daughters clothes.

No! She's one of my favorite characters. She's not wooden - she's hard, cold and I think plays it very subtly.

I agree, she's brilliant, and I'm really glad they brought her back.

I agree as well, she is hardly going to full of the joys in her job. However what she got up to in series 6 seems to have been forgotten :suspect:
I was impressed at how quickly Harry managed to get cleaned up and back into a suit after being interogated/drugged all day:D
I also thought Ben's death was very gruesome, probably 2nd in line after the chip pan from Series 1. he shouldn;t of taken the break that Connie suggested - why sit with your back to someone you know is a mole
To be fair, she's an old lady and he's a trained MI5 agent...he probably didn't feel particularly threatened. They're also scanned as they enter the building so I guess he thought she was unarmed.
That blade she had was a pretty tricksy bit of kit.
The ONLY bit that didn't quite gel with me was that Connie had left the service and was reluctant to be brought back in when Harry showed up at her farm-house. But that could easily be explained I guess - she could have got back in touch with bookshop guy once she was in again and then they hatched the plan.
Connie's 'fava bean' moment to Harry was really well done too - it was like a mask coming off.
That made me shiver. So well done.
I think it's been a pretty naff series overall compared to some of the previous ones. I think it's run it's course now IMO.

I haven't (unusually) posted any comment about this episode so far as it has taken this long for me to pick my jaw up off of the floor where it dropped to in amazement.
Definitely up there with the best ever Spooks episodes of all time, I had my doubts about this series (I was not overly sold on the Iran centric series 6) but this has blown the doubts away.
Hope a soundtrack CD of this series gets made, the dramatic music as Connie returns to the grid after offing Ben was brilliant.
Yes series 7 is only eight rather than the usual ten episodes but I think being a bit tighter drawn together is better for it. Series 6 when I watched on DVD recently was really a eight episode series (the whole Iranian thing was all but wrapped up by the end of 8) with two additional episodes seemingly tacked on to make up the numbers.
How about a Christmas special? Harry raids an MP's office without a warrant to see who has leaked the Home Secretary's Christmas card list?

The only thing I found annoying about this episode was Connie's dissent into pantomime theatrics at the end.

So is Adam Carter really actually dead? There was no body and no funeral shown on-screen.

There probably wasn't much body left ;)
Also, does anyone know what music Harry was listening to at the beginning of the episode?

Great news, I wouldn't mind the series going back to ten episodes either.

They don't always show the funerals, otherwise every series would be full of them giving the amount of characters who have been killed off since the first series.

You say that but Adam was clearly exiting the car when the bomb went off. If it were any other episode of Spooks, the blast would've propelled him clear ;)

One thing I did find annoying though was that Ben will be getting a postumous gong (Distinguished Service Order) after what, less than a year in job he sort of accidentally fell into (having said that he has been good this series) yet poor old Adam 'four series, one dead wife and miserable kid' Carter gets sweet FA!!
EDIT: Just noticed that Amazon are listing the Series 7 DVD box set for a February release but then again they did that last year and it slipped to October again. Other series (dross like Bonekickers etc) get series box sets within hours of the last episode being aired yet us Spooks fans have to wait nearly a year!!
I think they time to release of the box set with the release of the next series.

Yes, the S6 set came out about 2/3 weeks before this one started

It was from a opera, Aida, I think the music was called the slaves chorus.

Thanks! :)
edit: just grabbed it on itunes - Nabucco, Part 2, Part 3, Scene 2 (Chorus of Hebrew Slaves): Va, Pensiero, Sull'ali Dorate.. (Coro), if anyone's interested :)

Also had Mozart's Requiem at the start. ;)
