Full trailer due 14th December, and it looks like a load of news to come about the game in January in GameInformer (http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200812/N08.1201.1525.24193.htm)
Nathan's adventure revolves round the explorer Marco Polo this time.
Definitely top of my wanted list..... :thumbs:

Cool. I rather enjoyed the gears of war/tomb raider mix of the first game. But...
I hope they concentrate more on puzzles than just shooting armies of bad guys this time.

Dunno what I'm most happy about, - the fact that it's being quoted as using '100% of the PS3's power', or the fact they've dropped the painfully poor SixAxis controls :gag:!

It's lines like this that make Sony and the developer look like utter tools.
The first game had a great first half and a very very average second half, still the best game on the PS3 bar LBP and MGS.

Superb news - Uncharted was one of the best games I've played on the PS3 - just the right mix of Indiana Jones and crazy shoot-em-up. That's going right to the top of the list for 2009

Ah man, I'm still playing this and thought I was near the end and I haven't even seen a zombie yet. I'm still on the island, is there a lot still to go?

As I posted at the beginning of the original Uncharted thread, I have complete faith in Naughty Dog to deliver the goods. If they can expand on what they did in Uncharted in the same way they did with Jak II and Jak 3 Uncharted could be even better than the first game. I hope they add more gameplay variety, that is what I really miss from Jak II and Jak 3.

I thought the first one looked good - those screens are pretty impressive.
ND need to tighten up the combat a bit, as it's a bit sloppy compared to its obvious sources of inspiration (or that could be down to me being used to 360 sticks and the DualShock 3's feeling like small limp willies in comparison. I have empirical proof of this).
But otherwise, I'm all over this. I loved the first, even the zombieeessssss. Only game I've really loved on PS3.

If I didn't know how good the original Uncharted looks (despite the tearing problems at times) I wouldn't think the screenshots were anywhere near representative of the actual in game graphics. If they can make it look as good as the screens we're seeing and sort out the tearing issues it will be awesome. :)
This is certainly near the top of my list of games to look out for in 2009.

Bring it on and let's hope Drake is more of a bad ass this time around.
More guns.
More gunfights (which I thought were one of the stand out things in the original).
More vehicle based run and gun.
More bloody violence! :thumbs:
Oh and a nice bit of totty with nice looking norks would be good.

I liked that Drake was sort of a Nathan Fillion/Bruce Campbell sort of hero. The last thing he needs is a badass boost, like up to 11 or something.

"..Gone are the jungles, cliffs and boulders of Drake's Fortune, here replaced with poles, metal signs, air-conditioning units and whatever else can serve as a handhold. Luckily, most of the buildings now resemble swiss cheese, so there's a lot to grab onto. Drake hoists himself into a leaky building, clambers up a bookshelf a la Harrison Ford in Blade Runner, and continues on his way.
Farther on, our hero encounters some soldiers crouching behind riot shields -- here's where one of Drake's new melee attacks comes into play. He dashes up the shield like it's a ramp, lands behind his foe and promptly takes him out. Not one to squander opportunity, Drake makes sure to use the riot shield to block bullets and bash people in the face. We like it.
Eventually, Drake gets pinned down by several soldiers and a massive truck with a mounted turret. All seems lost until Chloe shows up with a rocket launcher in tow, ready to save the adventurer's ass. After the fireworks, the pair engage in some flirty, comical dialogue and use a mysterious artifact -- the Phurba dagger -- to point them towards their next destination.."

They're kind of in-game. Many developers produce screenshots by making a piece of code that freezes the game, allows you to re-position the camera, then re-renders the current image at an ultra-high resolution, dumping it out as an uncompressed image. You can then scale it back down to 720p to give the impression of a proper in-game image. It's called super-sampling and really makes the most of your actual game artwork - the final game will look like the screenshot, but it'll be much rougher around the edges.
And yes, these Uncharted 2 shots use that technique. This way of doing things is also good for rendering high-quality artwork to be used in magazine features, posters etc. It's nothing new - Criterion did the same for the Black media assets they produced.
So in short, this is going to be an awesome game without any shadow of a doubt (and I suspect it'll be my personal GOTY) but it won't look quite as good as those screenshots.

Main thing I picked up on was that it sounds like you will be able to 'Run and Gun' a lot more in this one, rather than them being two seperate actions;
...We wanted to create a seamless experience of "traversal combat," flowing freely in and out of combat as you travel through the world. That means that you'll definitely find yourself in the middle of a firefight while running, jumping and climbing around the environment. Again, to keep things realistic, we've made sure that Drake can fire his gun during all of these actions...

Looks very good - am excited by this one, the first was superb aside from a couple of issues.
That does look quite good, I never managed to finish the 1st game as I found it a bit repitive after a while, but I'll no doubt have a go at this one if it gets good enough reviews

oooo... that does look rather good! Also makes me want to play the original again. :D
Apart from the Zombies and a lack of platforming bits I thought that Uncharted: DF was amazing, I really liked the vehicle and jet ski bits as they broke the game up.
Not so long ago I found myself humming the theme tune to DF thinking "what film was that from?" :lol:
It does look very good.. The first one was great.. I'm really glad people here talked me round as I disliked the demo but really enjoyed the full game.

Most definetly, I only got my PS3 recently and got Uncharted as one of my first games. The visuals and general animations blew me away in places.
Haven't really had the chance to work my way through it but considering you can pick it up for near enouugh a tenner its a must buy - the game oozes quality. :thumbs:

Shoot from the hip in that section, don't bother aiming. You won't die, not even on Crushing difficulty. The platinum trophy isn't that hard.

Played it through again over the last week and finished it. I'm actually surprised at how short it is on the second playthrough, maybe because I skipped the cut-scenes this time around. The zombies weren't really annoying at all.
It is still the most technically advanced game on PS3 IMHO. Around every corner is some new wonder. I really would like v-sync in the next one though. It's the only blot on the copybook.
Uncharted 2 is by far and away my most wanted game of the year.

It is very nice looking, but there are still blights like tearing, dropped frames, some scuzzy textures alongside really very nice ones and pop-in.
The sequel is supposed to address most of these, however.

Yep it looks very very good. I could only watch until after the 'bus crash' though, other than the Multi-player Beta, I'm trying remain on a media blackout of this one. Uncharted was hands_down my favourite game of 2007 (behind Super Stardust HD that is! :D ) & I'd like to start this, unspoilered if possible.

Fantastic video. I like how you can now aim your grenade throw whilst staying in cover, that's a major annoyance in the first game for me (though it's not quite as bad once you've mastered the six-axis).

I've only just got into the first game, but one of the things I love about the character is how he swears, mutters, moans and wisecracks to himself along the way (often depending on the way the gameplay is going). So few games tend to have that.
The multiplayer Beta has been confirmed as going live tomorrow & will also feature 3-player co-op modes to play with too! :thumbs:

Would be great to do some co-op with you guys.
I'm in the Beta so will be looking for a couple of partners too.
Multiplayer allows up to 5v5 & there is a party-mode which is always a plus.

I downloaded about 30% of the Beta this morning before going out. Torn between playing Uncharted 2 Beta and making some more progress with inFAMOUS. BTW the text said that the Beta ends on 27 June.
Same problem here, John. Will probably d/load the Beta when I get home but try & complete inFamous later. Then hopefully Red Faction:Guerilla arrives later this week.

Just loaded it up and have the same problem. Do you need to make up a Party before finding a game or will it automatically put you in a deathmatch?
Edit: OK the bad news is that the matchmaking thing doesn't seem to be working at the moment. The good news is that there is a good Party/invite system and since one of the modes is 3 player co-op, even if the matchmaking thing doesn't work we can still check out that aspect of the game.
I think it is important that Naughty Dog did this Beta because they haven't done anything multiplayer before.

I paused my game of inFamous just after 10pm & saw that only you were playing it from my friends-list. I tried sending you a message but it returned with an error-message so I'm not sure that was because I was still in my game, or you were unreachable in yours. Anyways, I carried on playing & got so engrossed, I forgot to check again later, and now I've found a zillion invites from you & JohnMac .... Why can't they have the option to let you know in any game, that someone is messaging you, like the 360 can do?
Anyways, appologies. Did you both get to play? ... What do you think of it?

I've had 2 games prior to that, one deathmatch and one plunder. Like the fact you can chuck the "flag" about. Seems pretty good, imagine a faster paced better controlled Gears of War.

The line everywhere seems to be using with this one is "Just remember, this is a game, not a movie. Honest", and you can see why!

Ah... I was wondering why people kept comparing it to Crackdown....
Really wasn't convinced this would work in multiplayer, but it is absolutely brilliant. Both the competitive and co-op modes are excellent, this is going to be a real treat.
I had a quick blast yesterday, it's really good, I didn't do any co-op, how do you get to that in the beta? I had one option to auto find me a game...
I must admit I felt a bit bad being a villain and shooting Drake as he's a likable guy.
Highlight the picture and select it then select the other one which is co-op. Still haven't seen anything other than the menus in the beta.
How long are you waiting? At the moment I am experiencing a 1-3 min wait for a game so not too bad. Really want another code for a friend but it seems the code giving was really stringent.
Also I can't log into the beta site to give feedback :|
Wow! The co-op is brilliant, really really enjoyed playing that, I wasn't too stoked for the multi-player side but I think this is going to be awesome.
Patch is out now, matchmaking is much quicker :)
Watched the gametrailers videos and the beta looks surprisingly ace.

does anyone find this game a bit hard? I seem to go down in about 3 bullets, but I can offload full magazines into people without them even flinching.
Just had my very first play of Uncharted 2 multiplayer. I played on both maps. At first I died a lot, once while increasing the brightness because by default it seemed a bit dark on the Village map.
What can I say, it is Uncharted but multiplayer which is great. But the cover system can also mean that you leave yourself vulnerable to attacks because in most multiplayer games you are on the move a lot and in the single player game you were generally moving forward or at least had a good idea where the enemies were. As with all multiplayer games you can expect to die a lot but by the third and final game I played I was having a lot of fun with this and getting in a few kills but quite a few deaths as well.
My favourite map was the night-time one which was surprisingly well lit and reminded me most of Uncharted: big open area, lots lots of places to move between cover but always dangerous to stay in one place for too long.
I watched this interview with Emily Rose and Claudia Black (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/06/17/meet-the-women-of-uncharted-2-among-thieves/) ages ago and was happy to keep it all to myself. But it is Friday...
Confirmation by Naughty Dog that the single-player campaign is longer than the first game (which was already a decent length) & features over 90 minutes of cut-scenes. :)

If you have upgraded current firmware to 3.0 you will be lucky if you can play Drakes Fortune at the moment as my copy now freezes, tried deleteing save file and redownloading the current 1.01 firmware for the game but it still freezes in the same place. Read on the net over the weekend that the current3.0 firmware has caused a lot of problems with the game.............damn annoying as i had left playing it until ihad finished Prototype twice and was looking forward to it. :(

Thats strange, i actually started playing the game yesterday after having to update to 3.0. No problems so far

As I said at the start of the original Uncharted thread, I have absolute faith in Naughty Dog to deliver the goods and it looks like they have done it again. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is one of my favourite games and I've completed it 5 times. Really looking forward to playing this.

As some of you may know, the Uncharted 2 public beta has been running for the last couple of weeks, but only for those who pre-ordered the game from certain retailers.
But no longer! Because you can download it from PlayStation Store at 7pm UK, and play all the way up to October 12th!
The Public Beta contains:
Four maps – The Ice Cave, The Temple, The Village and The Plaza
Deathmatch, Elimination, Plunder, Chain Reaction, Co-op Gold Rush and an extract from one of our Co-op objective levels
The Machinima mode, where you can run around the levels and tweak the camera so you can create movies which you can then watch in Cinema mode
Cinema mode, where you can watch movies of your online matches, or your performances in Machinima mode, then upload them and send them to your friends (as long as they’ve got the Beta to watch it on of course)
Twitter option – enter your twitter account details and you’ll automatically tweet status updates of your online progress

Twitter stuff disabled just for the demo..? I don't know why I'm even asking because I don't bother with that stuff either - but it does sound like a cool game feature which I know could get me interested into this sort of telex if I were so inclined after a good demonstration. Also, I have several friends that use twitter and they may like that feature too.

No it will be disabled for the full game because it will quickly get annoying getting automatic reminders that this person or that person has completed a specific chapter. This was also discussed on the latest Listen Up podcast, sounds like a waste of time.

I think just because twitter and others gives people the freedom to say what they are doing it doesn't mean they should unless you've really got something worth saying or sharing with others. Surely, it just makes finding anything interesting or useful harder to find. For most people living normal lives why can't they just talk, phone or e-mail somebody.

yeah I don't get all that either must be getting old, I read some of the aussie/english players and former players twitters during the ashes. Think I checked out Gillespie, Warne, McGrath, Onions, Boycott and a few others, the majority of posts by them or their followers were inane babble. The BBC ran a story about twitter saying it lowers your IQ, I concur.
In regards to this game and the multiplayer, seems decent enough as an addition to the single player. Only really checked out the objective based games, lot of obnoxious yanks with hiogh ranks in this game as usual so the mute function was working overtime. Got my own back by scoring twice in the plunder game mode which helped to win the round, must have made them feel like idiots after all the big talk. :wave:
How is the co-op going to work exactly?, is it full singleplayer campaign co-op or the multiiplayer variant found in this beta....which is alot of fun btw.
I'm getting killed way more than I kill others so far. I shoot them loads of times and they shoot back and kill me in about two shots. Don't know if it is simply that I haven't got any perks, connection issue or I'm just not very good.
Edit: Just watching a replay and I think it was the latter. :D
I didn't have any probs with that, there is something about the damage system which I didn't get....I was clipping static people in the head from close-mid range zoomed in whilst in cover and for the life of me I couldn't get enemies to go down after one shot to the head - I guess its not trying to take itself too seriously. :shrug:
Hadn't really been following all the news on this as I knew it was always going to be a buyer but im a tad letdown now after reading the now old joystiq article on the co-op. I should have realised from all the footage that you wouldn't be solving puzzles, platforming etc with another player, as they said in their preview the co-op has more in common with something like left 4 dead.
Slightly scunnered at the scoring system as well for plunder, many a time I've ran the treasure back to my base and had to throw it up to a player on the platform above for him to get the credit for returning the plunder. :thinking:
I've only played 3 rounds of deathmatch. Spent a bit of time watching a replay, switching between players, changing cmaera angles, flying around the map and taking a few photos. Fired off two photos I took to some people on my friends list who were online but not playing anything.
The co-op is alot of fun, a guy from my friendlist and a random exciteable yank who kept saying "Jesus, this **** is crazy" played through it. Some great moments like getting to a point on the map where I boosted the players up a pole and had no idea what to do myself and ended up having to take cover behind a car as enemies swarmed me, turns out my friend was scaling a ledge on a building and he pushed down a block which we then used to escape to the next area.
In another area some guys came out with riot shields and I fortunately had an RPG from the previous area as my main weapon, cue a shot into a crowd of 5 guys carrying riot shields which took them all out, two of us then used the riot shields to form a wall for the third player to use as cover as we peaked out with our pistols every now and then to take out some enemies.
Its decent and all but im more of a purist when it comes to co-op, I'd have loved the full story experience ala Halo 3 or Gears. :)
Does it save replays in co-op, you can send a replay to a friend to watch I think?
yeah, you can send replays to friends but it doesn't seem to save co-op replays.
It would appear that I've had 17 kills and a lot more deaths, my favourite map is the village (although I didn't play it today, but did in the earlier Beta) and my favourite weapons are the AK-47 and the Dragon Sniper (the latter probably linked to the host making it mostly a sniper only game in the temple level earlier).
All the maps are really good apart from maybe Temple - not too sure on that one yet but have had some good games on it.
Just played an Elimination game and really enjoyed it. You can't afford to give your life away cheaply but once dead you can watch everyone else playing until the next round starts.
Deathmatch with just RPGs was good as well. Also played a couple more team deathmatch games, it is just great fun to play and I got a few medals on the last game.
The co-op is alot of fun, a guy from my friendlist and a random exciteable yank who kept saying "Jesus, this **** is crazy" played through it. Some great moments like getting to a point on the map where I boosted the players up a pole and had no idea what to do myself and ended up having to take cover behind a car as enemies swarmed me, turns out my friend was scaling a ledge on a building and he pushed down a block which we then used to escape to the next area.

Played a couple of co-op games of "Capture the gold" which was pretty cool. I moved rank(?) from 1 to 4 in the first game and overall came 2nd, but I only had like 2 kills with 20 deaths :) The 2nd game I think we won overall but it was sooo close. Lasted about an hour! It was on the town map but it had soo many lol moments... Like everyone piled into the middle building to grap the gold and then some happy chappy threw in a grenade and killed over half the players :lol:
I am not a FPS type person and prefer organised co-op type games. Loved this! Just need to work out all the controls so I stop dying from silly things ;)
Its maxed out my adsl connection which is 4900Kbps. Wish I had faster connection now :) This is on my phat, via homeplugs, via switch and then into modem+router which tells me the download of each MAC :dork:

You can have the bog-standard multiplayer modes but the co-op objective and arena modes are fun.

Well I pay for upto 8mbps and lived with 3mbps until about 2 weeks ago. For some strange reason my exchange just got faster! It also had the ADSL MAX for the last 2 yrs, its like they turned up the gain to maximum along all the lines for some reason. Not that I am complaining :)
I had a quick blast of this tonight and it might be the first game ever to tempt me to play online gaming. Not really a hardcore gamer these days but this was a really good fun and I didn't feel like a bullet magnet

Played some deathmatch just now and it's pretty much like the previous beta. I had to delete the corrupted save files, but all is well.
I see that players are good at this - most with very advantageous perks - like silent running which really allows them to sneak up on you. I would have liked a map, but then the gamertag overlays fill the screen depending on your rotation so i suppose that can work.
I think the gameplay is alright for a 3rd person multiplayer shooter and it certainly has it's own style but if i was being critical i'd say the cover system placements aren't as intuitive as Gears Of War, and that it doesn't seem to know whether it's about strategic gameplay or run and gun action. For Naughty Dog's first forray into online multiplayer with this title though, criticism might be unfair as what else could they have produced? It ticks all the boxes - and a theatre replay system like Halo 3 is above and beyond what could really be expected.
I'm still looking forward to exploration of the other game modes, as well as the full game itself.

I don't know how you select an elimination game I wasn't the host when I played it last night but it was just with a group of random players.
Great review from Eurogamer. Surprised it got a 10 considering there are still some niggles, but they sound trivial.
Annoying that it's been reviewed so early, makes the wait even more difficult.
I'm happy with the balance between single player, cooperative play and the multiplayer modes.
I've read that the co-op sections are offshoots of the single player environment but aren't quite the same. This to me is a good thing because it means that the single player difficulty level will be unaffected and you won't need to team up with somebody if you wanted to complete the game on a higher difficulty setting. They can therefore make the single player game as good as it can be and the dedicated co-op mode more challenging.
There is some variety in multiplayer as well but I think there are only 7 maps in the full game so maybe they can add more later. But even in simple deathmatch having an RPG battle or a sniper and pistole only battle changes the way the game plays.
BTW the trophies are very similar to the first game and there are only 2 trophies for multiplayer: completing a co-op game and completing a competitive multiplayer game. Really think they should have added a gold trophy for reaching level 50 and maybe another trophy for getting 1 of every medal type in multiplayer but there you go.
have swapped over from 360 to a PS3 slim (my first ps3) very recently and 50% of the way through the first Uncharted and its the best game I have played in ages. Looking forward to the sequel.

We played that mode as well but it ended up just being about getting kills and moving on through the level without dying, I think the prob is when you kill an enemy the gold for doing so doesn't appear as a big pile of gold or money bag or something similiar its like a tiny flashing light next to their corpse so in the game we had I seemed to be the only one picking it up possibly due to it not being glaringly obvious that its there?:?:
Yeah I agree orac, I only got Uncharted and my PS3 several months ago and on top of what you said I'd add visually Uncharted is one of the best looking games I've played.

It's like horde, except to reanimate your friends if they die you have to get the MAIN treasure (which is pointed to on your HUD) from one end of the map to the other through successively harder enemies. It's pretty fun and takes some decent teamwork after stage 5 or so. You can sit there killing enemies forever and not complete the stages, you have to get the treasure. The treasures you're talking about are just bonuses you get if you kill enemies in certain ways.

Im hoping they have the decency to incorporate a brief tutorial video into the game which gets played on your first time playing any mode. There are a few games which have done this and it helps alot.
I mean some of the modes are just standard fair or twists on old formats like plunder which is essentially single flag CTF with gold etc but I haven't got a clue whats going on in some of them.
I played a mode called Chain Reaction, I think it was, yesterday which can be over within seconds if you aren't careful. I'm not that familiar with multiplayer modes in general but it seemed like a Domination type mode where you capture control points on the map but I think if you lose them all the game is over and like I say that can happen very quickly if you either play very well or very badly.
aye that mode reminded me of Domination mode as well or Conquest from BF:BC, I like that style of game but its so hit and miss depending on the players that your playing with it can be very frustrating. Generally I seem to find myself with a team which is composed of two thirds of players that want to play that game mode like its a team deathmatch rather than go for bases, its either that or half my team sit at the base spawn point with sniper rifles trying to shoot people which are half way across the map. :|

Elimination is in the deathmatch playlist but is on a low % participation so it rarely comes up and even then seems to go against the vote so I've not played it yet.

God I cant wait for this. Multiplayer may be fun but its the single player campaign im most looking forward to. The first was just so good, so if this is any better (and that seems to be the case) then I am in for a hell of a good time playing it.
First is easily my favorite game on the ps3 thus far, and one of my favorite games ever.
