My sony DAV-sb200 recently packed up, I would like to replace it with a stand alone amp that will work with existing speakers, it doesn't have to be amazing just half decent, here's the catch, I only want to spend aroun£100, any recomendations welcome, Cheers Col.
P.S. preferably not sony crap!!!

If you don't want Sony crap and only have £100 to spend then why not get some quality Chinese brand that you've never heard of?

No need for sarcasm, I was only making an observation of my experiences in the past, that being a 2 year old sony DVD player packing up!!!!

I'm not being sarcastic, I'm just highlighting that you generally get what you pay for - whatever the brand. For £100 then you are generally going to end up with some duffer that does what it is supposed to, but effectively not for as long or as good as a more expensive one.

FWIW, I have a Sony amp (£250) and it is fine and previously owned another Sony amp that is 8 years old and still working as good as the first day it was switched on (my mate now owns it).

If I spent £50 on a DVD player and it lasted 2 years then at 50p a week I would count that as having my monies worth.

Hey mate I bought a £40 dvd player 6years ago, it still works fine, if you think paying £300 for a suround sound system that lasts 2 years is ok, then you must be fool. All I want is a little advice for a decent amp, if you cant recommend one then don't bother posting. ta

I've had my Sony 830 amp since they were a new model (9yrs-ish?) and it's still going strong. It's on been on several hours a day, every day for most of those years. We originally had a plasma display with no sound built in so have always used the amp for all our audio needs.

So in answer to the original query - I'd recommend spending his hard-earned on Sony Crap if he can find any for £100

Another recommendation for Sony crap here. My HTSS 1300 is great.

thanks very much for your help, this looks pretty much what I am after, do you know if my speaker connections from the SB200 will fit it, they are like telephone style clippy types, please excuse my technical ignorance.
Cheers

You should be able to use your existing 5 satellite speakers (since according to the manual I browsed they're 6 ohm nominal inpedance). But you'll need a new sub as it looks like it's a passive rather than active one (which is what's required for use with a standalone av amp/receiver). Does it have its own power supply, or is the only connection the speaker input into the back of the DAV-SB200?

just connected via back of DAV-SB200, no power? god this is more complicated than I first thought, may pay me to buy a whole new set up long term maybe.

Yes, that would be a passive sub (which unfortunately is pretty common for all-in-ones).
