View Full Version : Spend your Shopping Vouchers Now!

After being bitten by the Icesave fiasco, I have instructed my wife to spend all our shopping vouchers before the highstreet crashed around us.

She counted £200+ worth of vouchers  which we promptly went and spent on as much as possible. We still have £100 or so knocking about (Next etc) which are being spent as soon as possible.

Now, some Vouchers are supplied by third-parties and if they hit the wall then there is no recourse apart from going to the administrators as a creditor.

So use this as an excuse to spend those vouchers - they are not as good as cash!

and thos annoying gift cards. Hate them as you can never tell what is on them so tend to forget about them. much preferred the old fashioned vouchers you got.

My dear friiend always gives me a £5 Debenhams gift card for birthdays and Christmas - except I don't live anywhere near a Debenhams  So this year I spent them all on a hand towel and some coasters for the conservatory. Couldn't afford anything else and I wasn't going to put any money to it as it kind of defeats the object

I'm expecting another in a few weeks time :D

Skint as skint can be here. If anyone has vouchers they don't have a use for I'll happily take them off your hands and spend them creatively on Christmas gifts for the family .

I just spent my Fat Face £30 voucher...well part of it anyway. £45 top with money off AND 20% discount - I came away with a gift card as 'change' with £10 on it out of the £30 I started with. I think some shops are getting desperate.

Yeah, don't give people gift cards for christmas. Give 'em money instead. The store could go bankrupt making the cards useless.

The news today said many retailers could go under, so this is a thread worth remembering. I've got a voucher for Next; they should be ok, but who knows?

Um Next is rumoured to be one of the Troubled Ten that the newspapers are going on about, possibly due to their over-ambitious expansion plan in the last couple of years. Problem is that they may have locked themselves in to expensive long leases on a number of their properties, so while high street rents may be starting to fall due to the number of stores closing, the long-established chains could have 5 year, 7 year, possibly far longer leases locked in at the higher rents of a year or two ago, which mean they can't cut their prices much. Spend those vouchers because Next could well be Next!

so I'd better get down there quick!

Any link for the rumour or is it confined to webspace and word of mouth?

Personally, given what rumour is currently capable of, I'd be wary of starting something like that.

lol, if you really think it's internet discussion forums that are bringing these companies down rather than their hopeless stock and poor customer service, then may I be the first to start the rumours that Pixmania (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=9) and Carphone Warehouse (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=35) are in dire dire trouble and I look forward to them both being finished within the fortnight.

What is "rumour currently capable of"? Because I can assure you that Woolworths, MFI, and if they do go, Zavvi, have all died entirely at their own hands.

I took a gamble and got M&S vouchers & BHS vouchers for a couple of people for Chrimbo, hope they don't go through the tubes before they get chance to use them!

So, I'll ask again. Where is your information that Next is likely to go?

As my wife has requested Next Directory vouchers for Christmas

So it's pretty much guaranteed to be on that list

Just spent the remaining Dorothy Perkins vouchers on a load of tat. So just eighty quid of Boots + a few hundred Next vouchers to go.

Not sure what thought process went into this :help: :help:

Bloke in pub.

I did say it was a rumour.

Such rumours will not do the same damage to shops as they did to the banks. Its not as though as anyone will take their money out of the shop. People may actually get in there and spend because they fear the shop will go down

Having said that, I guess shares could be an issue

KennyVader

if you look at the actual share trades for a retail giant like Next their shares are being traded in the thousands if not tens of thousands every (trading) minute of every day.

Speculation on a particularly financial discussion site that is frequented by day traders might have some slight impact, but no way are more general internet sites going to be able to influence a share as heavily traded as high street retailers' shares are.

Quick note on this: A friend has told me that Zavvi have stopped accepting vouchers.

Quick note on this: A friend has told me that Zavvi have stopped accepting vouchers.Yes I saw this at one of their stores. They say to contact their office.

I'm not sure if you'll have any luck though as basically whoever has vouchers is a creditor. And its creditors who miss out when someone goes into administration
