It’s been a while since we did a review on the DVD Forums. Bowing to public demand we have decided to do another one.

In conjunction with Pricedevil we are looking for 10 reviewers to test a top of the range speaker system / iPod / MP3 dock.

Boffer will provide 10 of the said sound systems which have an MRP of £79.99 (you can keep it afterwards) I would like the lucky members who are chosen to do the following.

1. Do some research on the product

2. Get their sample and test it and write a review on it, perhaps make a video, sing a song whatever you likelier you decide the format of the review.

3. Decide what price boffer should sell it for on their site for it to be construed as an awesome bargain. (Click here (http://www.boffer.co.uk/blog/)to see typical boffer retail prices)


So there you have it 10 of you get to choose the price for a boffer In return you get a top of the range speaker system / iPod / MP3 dock for free.

3) home with two heavy ipod users (80gig video classic and 8gig nano), both of reasonable intelligence and able to string half sensible sentences together when it comes to writing the review. ipod use varies from podcasts, metal, indie-alternative, oldies, r&b, hiphop, and loads of other genres it would be too tedious to list. would be able to bring to to my folks house to expand upon the range of test subjects (dad - fairly tech savvy, brother - in to mental dance music, mum - has ipod but really requires a lot of assistance with such things). lastly, my wonderful bose sound-dock, which has lasted me through 3 generations of ipod, has recently packed up and while i do intend to get it repaired, this would make a suitable temporary replacement and subsequent companion.

3) there's only 1 iPod in the house, but as it's also an mp3 dock i'd be able to connect up a host of different players to try it out. My partner and I have musical tastes that cover pretty much everything from random dance tunes from the 80's up to Metallica's latest album. 3. Well, I'll start with my music collection. 60GB on my main mp3 player, 160GB on my PC - with music ranging from classical, 70's prog rock, 80's synth pop, 90's, er...whigfield? trip hop, drum n' bass, death metal!
The other reason, is the sheer amount of time I have on my hands. I currently play poker for a living you see. So, in theory, I have a full 24-hours a day to do what I want - so in this case, review some speakers!
So, on the whole i'll create efficient, reliable and thorough review as a beloved Boffer-ite.

3) After being overjoyed in the (one before last) boffer sell off at securing myself not only an ipod nano but also a Maxell speaker dock it ultimately ended in sorrow. The speakers were faulty on arrival BUT boffer staff could not have been more helpful in the way they treated me. A refund was quickly forthcoming AND they even refunded return carriage costs! THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU! However I am still in need of a speaker dock for my nano, my classic and my (soon to be purchased) 3G iPhone. Here's hoping!

3. I have neighbours who are ***** and they tried to steal 3ft x 30ft of my land last year. Since then, I've tried to annoy them as much as possible for revenge. I have a bunch of family members who can provide other views on the player (along with playing different types of music). I can write a very thorough and amusing review. We also have a huge selection of different ipods/mp3 players that can put the speaker system to the test! I can also see into the future so therefore know what to review already.

I'm very much in to 'gadgets', and love setting things like this up and trying them out.
I have an mp3 player but no sound system as such to go with it. I've always wanted one, but they can be very expensive - I've seen ipod compatible systems my mates have which cost hundreds of pounds.

I use the mp3 player a lot when I'm out, but as for listening to music at home, I use a combination of a 10 year old Sony cd player (although it is still going strong!) and my PC, coupled with speakers which are frankly, an embaressment.

It's time for an upgrade.

In reviewing the speaker system, I'll test in depth the level of sound quality, ease of set-up, ease of use, compatability, design/style, functions etc. Most importantly, at what price I believe the product would be good/fair value, bearing in mind the above criteria.

Finally, I promise that my review would be thorough, fair, and unbiased, and I'd look forward to showing off my newest gadget to friends/family at Xmas!

if you expect a video or a sing song,
if you expect a biased review just because we are getting it for free,
if the product is poor and you want my review to help sell it for too high a price.

However,

Do choose me:

if you want it reviewed by somebody who has a wife who has bought them an ipod every year since the 2g version through to the new iTouch and iPhone (U2 special edition one in there too) and has all 6 iPods to hand.

if you want a normal written review from somebody who enjoys a diverse taste in music and can pass on an honest and informative review in the context of the considered price range for the product.

if you don't want the wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend perspective (i.e. the that one looks nice approach).

3 I'm going to test this in the most severe conditions possible - I'm refurbishing my house and am sick of the sound of silence, I'd subject the device to vibrations, dust, severe cold (try having the heating off for a day like today :doh:) and it's quite likely it will end up with a sheet of plasterboard testing it for impact damage :D

3. I'm desperately trying to drag my parents into the 21st century and have almost convinced them to ditch their old 78s and get an iPod. They've almost capitulated but are having trouble with the whole "it costs money" part. This item would make a fantastic early, extra Christmas present for them (because, frankly, I have AppleTVs all over the house and don't personally need it), it would mean I can review it with the half dozen iPods sitting around the house and also get the opinions of some rather lovely tech luddites. If they can use it, anyone can.

Also, I just missed out on getting to review the Aigo Omnisphere thingy a while back and was very sad about it. Tears were shed.

3. A speaker system would be perfect at the moment as it would serve to earn me points with the GF. I would shed the unflattering and spurious claim that I am cheap and un-spontaneous by providing a dock to act as a companion for the Nano that she recently bought.

The review portion of this cunning plan would be when I would use the above stated Nano and dock as accompaniment to a romantic meal. This would be serenading us with the deeply sickly tones of James Blunt and James Morrison et al. While I would be forced to listen to such drivel, I could concentrate on analysing sound quality and functionality thus suffering a terrible insult to further serve a greater purpose.

If the dock includes a remote, I would have to test the ease of use of its features including the skip if something inappropriate came on that would kill the mood (Busted / Sir Mix a lot).

In summary, rejection in this review process may mean that a romantic meal could end up turning into an evening of awkward silence, putting the whole relationship in jeopardy. It is your choice.

As the elderly (46) father of three children, Jack (5), Alex (2), baby3 (-2 months), I am in the enviable position and can test the aural range of these speakers for a large number of age ranges, including the ears of those not yet born....although obtaining the review from the youngster may have to wait until it's born, unless of course we can work out some code that involved kicking. I'm sure the wife will help.

Also as space in the house will be somewhat limited we are taking the big step of removing my beloved mega sized Technics 'music centre' monster and replacing it with a smaller (true), better (allegedly), modern (true), better sounding (to be confirmed) system and this dock may fit the bill.

Assuming I can prise some of the 'Take That' and 'Madonna' tracks from my wifes iPOD and replace them with proper music (U2, Simple Minds, etc) then all should be happy in the Kelly household.

So in short, choose me and get:
1) Sound quality reviews from a variety of ages
2) Size comparisons, does size really matter..
3) Durability of said Dock when used by elderly clumsy, arthrithic hands (mine) and young supple, sticky and inquisitive hands (Alex).

As the icing on the cake here is 40% of my testing team..

I bought these speakers from a boffer sell off for £19.99

They were new but didn't work properly ( via the dock they had interference on one channel and via the jack interference on both channels)

They went back and boffer were VERY good about it.

Thankfully though I was not one of the lucky ones this time :)
