Used to love REM but I think some of the songs are a bit weak recently so I'll pass on this I think, still a great deal though and was tempted. No "It's the End of the World as We Know it", I thought thay did that at every live concert?

No "It's the End of the World as We Know it", I thought thay did that at every live concert?know what you mean Eddie, and many would agree (the latest Accelerate being great) but fwiw, there's a good mix of old & new here, and any weaker songs sounds better live anyway.
oh - still available, and just got despatch email.

Don't mean to hijack the thread for general REM discussion but is the new album really back to the old standards, what would you compare it too, New Adventures..... , Automatic....... or something older like Life's Rich Pageant, those would be my three faves of their's?
^^ of the 3 albums you mention, it's definitely Pageant-esque. I'd say the feel is more of an 'urgent/energetic' student rock, than poignant melody though. There's discussion of Accelerate here - http://www.thedvdforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=496632&page=6 - some comments being -
GarethH - I'm loving the new album, no skippers! ... The most energetic songs songs by R.E.M since Begin the Begin, These Days and I Believe!
ascender - I'm enjoying it and lots of the sounds are very early-REM to my ears. From the "jangling" guitars and some of the bass-lines. Not sure what it is exactly, but so many of the riffs and sounds are reminding me of other REM songs from their IRS days. ... Still loving this. Its on in the house all the time at the moment. I love the feel and vibe of it from start to finish, a very cohesive album.
******* - I agree. This is (against all expectations) a bit of a stonker.
you can get it for about a fiver, see here - http://www.pricesearching.co.uk/MusicDetail/B0013BNY2Q - and here - http://www.pricesearching.co.uk/MusicDetail/B00140AI5M

Cheers Driver8, kind of you to post such a good reply, like the sound of the jangly guitars, I'll go and take a look at the REM thread, and I'm loving the price of cds nowadays, I remember when I bought my first cd system back in 1993 HMV were charging twelve or thirteen quid a pop for new releases, probably the equivalent of about £18 today!
Thanks to the OP.
It was £20 instore today.
