View Full Version : 36" Widescreen Sony or Panasonic ??
I'm in the lucky position that my company will buy me something instead of me recieving cash as my quarterly bonus which means I get the benefit of not paying tax on the money & the company will pay the VAT on whatever I buy :D
I've decided to go for a 36" widescreen, but which one to go for ? I'd prefer something with a black casing (although they all seem to be silver at the moment), So basically which to go for ?
I'd prefer the panasonic as all the rest of my gear is Panasonic/Technics (I'm a bit funny like that), but people are saying to me to go for the Sony as it has a better picture...
I need your opinions guys...

Why not have as look at the new Panasonic PT AE100 cinema projector thats just come out, can be had for around £1,500 and is the bees knees, dedicated 16x9 picture, cheap bulbs and long bulb life. Be around the same as the tv costs you are looking at.
Love to, but the missus doesn't want to "just watch DVDs"... :D She want's her soaps too so I have to go for somefink with a tuner in it & ease of use

I have the Sony 36FS70 and I am very happy with it. Better than the Philips I had before that.
Excellent picture and you don't get the smearing effect which other tv's have due to superior processing.

My brother has a Panasonic 36" which has a great picture but the case is a really nasty silver, not that there's ever a nice silver! It's almost like Kit-Kat wrappers!!
You'll also need 3 people to handle it, it weighs nearly 100Kg

I'm looking at similar sets at the moment and one of the one's i'm considering is this (http://www.avshopdirect.co.uk/shop1/wide/tosh_36zp18p.htm) .
Might be worth a look for you??
The tosh is one of the nicest looking sets but you might like to take a look at the thread about it in the TV forum at http://www.avforums.com/

I had the Sony 36FS30 and I had to return it as it had numerous problems. Im not the only one, there are many others who have had 3 or even 4 replacements with various problems.
If you get a good one its a stunning set, but I couldnt be bothered to try & try again!
All manufacturers of 36" sets have problems so its a bit like pot luck.
The Panasonic 36PL30 looks quite good, not many complaints so far, so it may be worth checking out.
If youre not too bothered about the size and would prefer a better picture but smaller screen then try Loewe Aconda or Vitros 32" sets.
BTW you can get the Aconda in a black gloss finish, absolutely stunning!!
Good Luck!!!!!
