I got this boxset on Saturday and I went to watch Robocop yesterday but the disc doesn't work, the DVD player (Toshiba SD100) keeps saying - DISC ERROR - yet the same disc works ok if I watch it on my computer at work!

Any ideas? ... The other two films play without any problems.

Exactly the same on my Proline DVD1000.

Discs 2 & 3 play fine - disc 1 doesn't wanna know (except on my PC).

Any others with the same problem?

Was gonna get this today, but if don't work on a PROline then I'm screwed. Has anyone managed to get this to work on the proline 1000 player?

Exactly the same happend on my Toshiba 100 as well . What makes it worse is that it only happens on Robocop SE and not the dire sequels (which I didn't really want anyway).

To be honest I've had a lot of problems with MGM discs in the past. I went through two copies of Spaceballs (which had exactly the same problem as Robocop) and the first copy of Terminator SE that I bought looked like Freddy Krueger had been sharpening his claws on Disc 1.

PS. The plant where they packed Robocop is quite near to me, and after working there briefly after Uni, I can tell you its a really cheap and nasty operation. So perhaps we shouldn't be surprised at the faulty discs.

hmm - I was worried about this one after reading this thread cos I was still waiting for my copy - I have the Tosh SD100 too - but, perhaps strangely, it works just fine in my player.

I suppose that's a blessing in disguise cos at least you know that yours might be just a bad batch rather than all copies not working in your player!!

ps - I selected the Dir. Cut and didn't notice any pauses at all!

I get the exact same thing in my Toshiba 100E.

Works fine in my parents Tosh 110 though.

Trust it to be Robocop SE giving us the problems. I bet if it was only Robocop 3 that was giving us problems we'd settle for using it as a coaster instead.

I'm off to change my copy tomorrow, if that doesn't work then my thirty notes will be going towards a nice Die Hard box set.

Wish me luck, I'll let you know if it works.

Is that directors cut version the same as the one on the criterion version or is it something else.

Cheers.

the very same + you can watch the theatrical version too. ( which in my opinion is better)

Having read this yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it works fine on my bargain-basement Matsui 122.

But I watched the Director's cut and, despite noticing a few brief pauses, I didn't see any new footage. Anyone have this problem? Anyone know what the extra footage is?

3 bits that ive noticed

1. Ed 209 at the beggining goes over the top and keeps shooting for ages.

2. Murphys hand is shown ( or not shown cos its missing and when clarence shoots him in the head, there is a different camera angle.

3. When robocop kill clarence there is more gore and a difference camera angle.

Basically more blood.

There the ones Ive noticed.

I would guess that the problems are caused by the 'seamless-branching' on the DVD that is used to switch between the two versions on the DVD. It's been known to happen to other titles with this feature.

Don't know how to get around it though - sorry folks.:(

Arrrghhhhhhh! Took my first copy of Robocop back to the shop for a full refund, then bought byself a new copy for £5 cheaper at the local Asda. Got back home, settled down ready for a nice relaxing night of ultra-violence and... same bloody thing happens.

This is incredibly annoying, does anyone have an e-mail adress for MGM DVD customer service i'm in rant mode and need to vent.

Yep. Those are the added dir cut scenes however, you failed to mention this one...Split second close-up of Bobby (of 'Can you fly, Bobby?' fame) leg getting shot!Is that shot in there?

EDIT: Also the......aftermath scene of Murphy's death - the over head shot of Lewis finding him, dwells longer in the dir cut.

Picked up a copy from ASDA today, only £25!!!, when I first put the disc on my heart sank. Didn't work on my Proline 1000. So fiddled with the disc and it loaded, turned player off then eject straight away then put it back in. Worked a charm. The seamless branching though, ain't that seamless. Usually have no probs with layer changes, only noticed two or three in over 100 discs.

What exactly did you do to the disc?

I've tried wiping it with a soft cloth but thats not helping at all :(

When it didn't work I just turned my player off. Turned it back on pressing eject. Disc came out, sent it back in and it came on.

:brickwall

Nope thats not working either, thanks for the help though. If anyone with a Toshiba SD 100-E who has had problems manages to get this to work please let me know. Normally I'd just shrug my shoulders and get a different film, but Robocop is one of my top five movies and I've been waiting for a decent R2 release for soooooo long (sob)

Well, it works on my tosh sd100e (modded by  Techtronics )

So far I have watched Robocop 3 (DONT ASK ME WHY) and noticed now and again lip sync problems. Not major ones just slightly on my Sony DVD player. I will have to try Robocop and make sure that one works.

Not too bothered about 3 not Ive seen it again. It can gather dust for 10 years now.

Anyone else noticed this.

Anyone else with a Pioneer DV340 experiencing problems with the first disc. For some reason on my player even though I select the Director's Cut I just get the Theatrical Version. I checked the ED-209 scene against my Criterion copy and the extended sequence is definitely not there. Anyone know how to fix this.
