Ne one know why they had brown tape around the butts of their rifles?

Probably to either hold a sling on, or to give it a bit more grip in the shoulder.

Although not having seen BHD yet, I can't be too sure.

Soldiers in the field though carry out all sorts of running repairs on their weapons, so it could be for anything!!

Because the base was so close to the city and each incursions was a short one, very few seemed to have slings on the weps. Def not running repairs either. Can't see what extra grip it would have afforded either.

I noticed the mp5s and the AMP's never had tape on them.
