fistful of dollars
for a few dollars more
good, bad & the ugly
hang'em high
are these all good on R2 (MGM) dvd release ?.
The Leone westerns are excellent. If you get 'em make sure you watch them in order, they get better as they go along. The discs aren't great extras wise but the films are classics. Hang 'Em High is alright but not in the same league as the others.

Been wanting to see these for years. Really want them to come on C4 again so i can decide whether the dvd is worth a purchase in the next HMV sale.
I quite enjoyed then but I think they’re not for everyone, in fact most people I know can’t stand them and find them very dull indeed. Like you said I would check one out before buying the box set.

If i were you i'd get some new friends.
They clearly have no taste
:)
I bought all three on saturday from the local v.shop in their buy 2 for 20 quid deal. Then noticed this morning that Play247.com have them for 7.99 (delivered) in their MGM promotion. Typical.
I can't believe anybody hasn't seen these movies yet. They're all classics. In the same vein as 'Once Upon a Time in the West', which was televised recently.
BTW Does anyone know what the extra 14 mins of new footage are on the Good, Bad, & Ugly disc, and if the other two that claim to be uncut versions are actually different from the televised versions we've been enjoying over the years?

G, B & U is a master piece, i dont like the other quite as much plus i much prefer Yojimbo to Fistful
Haven't had the opportunity to see Yojimbo yet, but Fistfull sure as hell gives Last Man Standing (Bruce Willis' take on the same story) a right fisting.
The whole 'You laughing at my mule?' sequence in Fistfull is worth watching the film for on it's own, and hints at where Clint's Dirty Harry character came from.

Not really, while I don’t necessary agree with them I do think Spaghetti Westerns are an acquired taste and I can fully understand why some people don’t like them.
No doubt Jimmyboy's next question will be 'Are there any planned Re-issues for these films' and the answer would be Yes for 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'.
Couldn't tell you when though, but I do recall reading about the restoration work they're putting into it.
Great films by the way....but do be sure to catch Yojimbo, and to a lesser extent Sanjuro if you can.

It wasnt actually.
I really wasnt expecting another release of these films considering how poor condition they must be in.
You dont know when to expect another release ?.
If there is another release coming, I might hold of buying them now.

There are deleted scenes, a couple you can see why they were deleted, but a couple of the others make a few plot jumps in the movie a lot clearer... I wish there would have been a mode to insert them in the movie. Tuco leading Blondie in the desert is a good one, it also explains how Angel Eyes is suddenly the army captain. Recommended.
The pic quality is very good considering, and in w/s it's a beautifully shot movie.
£8 it's a bargain...

Hello there!
However, I do have the DVDs and when I get half a chance I'll rectify this omission (along with French Connection 1 & 2, Saturday Night Fever, La regle du jeu, to name the probably most prominent titles on my to-see list).

what 3 films are part of the boxset then, coz I'll probably get them individually as its so much cheaper ?.
