I have to say that none of these deals are very special or cheaper than anywhere else:thinking:. In some cases they are a lot more.
If looking for a new or renewing a contract, then look elsewhere and compare before buying from here!

Also not seeing anything special with these deals, keep in mind the current "credit crunch" everyone keeps commenting on, prices will be dropping as users see them as too expensive to justify and not purchasing

Yes - and this is the standard price.

Better to get it for free on the £45 tariff and trade down to the £30 tariff a month later.

I'm not sure that can be bettered by a big retailer anywhere on the Net. I was looking at this phone as a present at Christmas and was going to buy off e-Bay at this price. Might get it from here now instead.

If you're going to quote a term, there's no point in selectively quoting it - you should quote at least the whole sentence. You can indeed change iphone tariffs every month.

Can you post the whole terms that you have seen that contradict these terms please

PAY MONTHLY TARIFF TERMS (July 2008) Consumer Pay Monthly Tariff Terms

1. Unless you have selected a SIM Only tariff, O2 Pay Monthly is subject to status, credit-check and the terms of a 12, 18 or 24 month minimum term O2 contract. After connecting or upgrading to a minimum term contract, you’re unable to move to a lower priced Pay Monthly tariff for 9 months unless otherwise stated. After 9 months you can change tariff a maximum of once per month, provided that if moving down a tariff you can only move to the next lowest priced tariff with the same minimum term. If you move from a tariff which is not currently available you will not be able to change back to your previous tariff (this may differ for iPhone customers depending on when you connected, please check the terms stated in your iPhone contract).

PAY MONTHLY TARIFF TERMS (July 2008)
Consumer Pay Monthly Tariff Terms
General
1. ...After connecting or upgrading to a minimum term contract, you’re unable to move to a lower priced Pay Monthly tariff for 9 months unless otherwise stated.

O2 AIRTIME TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR IPHONE CONSUMER CUSTOMERS (February 2008)
SERVICES AGREEMENT
5.15 ...You may move to another iPhone tariff at any time, provided that you may only change tariffs a maximum of once per month.

jimbobjoe

I originally looked up the T&Cs via the carphone warehouse website, which links to the GENERAL O2 T&Cs, which states:

5.15 If you are a Consumer Customer who has selected a tariff with a Minimum Period, you may not move to a tariff which offers a lower rate monthly subscription for the first nine months of your Minimum Period. After nine months, you may only move down one tariff per month, to the next lower-priced tariff unless you pay us the difference between the monthly subscription on your original tariff and the lower rate tariff we agree that you may move to. Where you have notified us you wish to move to the next lower tariff, unless we advise you otherwise, your new tariff will commence at the start of your next billing cycle.

But, the O2 website itself has a different set of T&Cs for the iPhone, with the same clause reading:
5.15 You may move to another iPhone tariff at any time, provided that you may only change tariffs a maximum of once per month. Changing tariffs will not affect your Minimum Period. You will not be able to move to a general O2 Pay Monthly tariff. Where you have notified us you wish to move to an alternative iPhone tariff, unless we advise otherwise, your new tariff will commence at the start of your next billing cycle.

So it looks like you get a more flexible deal if you have an iPhone than any other O2 phone. Odd.
So I wasn't 'selectively' quoting T&Cs, thank you very much Mr bobnick, I was quoting the entirely wrong set of T&Cs.

UPDATE:
Ok, I've just worked something out, I think. The first set of T&Cs are dated Feb 2008, and the second set of T&Cs came into effect in July 2008.
This was when they switched from 2G to 3G handsets. More importantly this is when they switched from selling the hadset and contract seperately to selling them combined. So I believe that now the revised set of T&Cs are in effect and you can't switch for 9 months.

Apologies, I was presuming you would have been directed by CPW to the main T&Cs that are on the O2 website.

Both the February and July T&Cs seem to be in place, supporting each other for iphone customers. I bought a 3G iphone from CPW, and changed down a tariff after a month or two by calling O2 - no hassles whatsoever.

Sorely tempted by this, however the T&C's are putting me off. Both jimbobjoe & bobnick are correct in that if you put the iphone if your basket and go through the checkout then there is a tick box to say you have read and abide by the T&C's whcih states that on a Pay monthly contract you cannot change for 9 months; however in the iphone T&C's it states you change once per month. :?:

Now I would default to the iphone T&C's as surely they are specifically aimed at the iphone tariffs, and bobnick's experience would appear to support this. But if this is true then why do they have you sign up to the others which say you cannot change for 9 months.

I think O2 will say you can change your iphone tariff once per month after nine months - but then that's not really what their T&C's say, and personally I'm probably not going to test them on it despite at least one other forum member being successful.

I'm due an upgrade in 3 weeks, so I'm thinking about an iPhone.
Would love to bag one cheaply on a high tarriff, and then change down, but I will talk to O2 first about the T&Cs.

My reading of the T&Cs suggests that it won't be possible, but bobnicks experience shows it could be possible.

It'll be a one-off mistake. There's no way they'd allow this, otherwise everyone would just get the 16GB for free on the most expensive contract then change down. Oldest trick in the book and one the operators wised up to years ago.

Well, it seems clear that that both sets of terms and conditions are in force for current connections via O2, and they can co-exist due to the "unless otherwise stated" element next to the general 9 month limit.

Print off the conditions if you're worried - if O2 were to get arsey about you changing you've got the evidence needed. More people don't take advantage because an awful lot of people either can't be bothered to read the conditions, or aren't able to understand them.

When I am at the checkout stage it asks me to aggree to the follow ing T&C (dated July 2008). If after a couple of months I called o2 to downgraded tariffs could I quote the Feb 2008 T&C as its live on the o2 site when I agreed to July 2008 T&C's?

5.15 If you are a Consumer Customer who has selected a tariff with a Minimum Period, you may not move to a tariff which offers a lower rate monthly subscription for the first nine months of your Minimum Period. After nine months, you may only move down one tariff per month, to the next lower-priced tariff unless you pay us the difference between the monthly subscription on your original tariff and the lower rate tariff we agree that you may move to. Where you have notified us you wish to move to the next lower tariff, unless we advise you otherwise, your new tariff will commence at the start of your next billing cycle.

just to let you know I ordered over the phone direct from o2 and they agreed to the changing tariffs after just one month (not nine), I directed the operator to the website terms and conditions and his manager agreed to them. Didn't risk the £75 p/month, but £45 p/month for one month changing to a cheaper one in december and if they have a better tariff in December / January hopefully I will change to that.
