My Brother wants to buy an MP3 player for his car but with me being more of a two wheeled man I don't have any links. I would guess that there are a few of you who know where to find this kit online.

Thanks

That seems just the ticket. Perhaps when a few more manufacturers bring out their products the price will drop a bit.

or get a portable MP3 and attach it to your head unit.

You can use it out of the car too.

just use either phono leads into the rear or a cassette adapter into the front. FM modulators are a bit rare though!

i would go for an MP3 headunit..

1. aren't phono inputs on car units rare (unless high spec models)??

2. Re: Cassette Adaptors/FM modulators, surely the sound is not that great? not on a par with MP3 headunits at least

Phono leads - dunno, seems more to do with make of unit!

And as for quality, they are probably not but a MP3 head uit is over £200.

For that much you can get a 6gig jukebox which should hold most of his collection, which he can remove from the car and use elsewhere.

It depends what he wants. But i firmly believe that the hard drive based MP3 units are the future.

If he has no current Head unit then a MP3 will be a good choice but MP3 units are still young therefore expensive, and not readily available (you have kenwood, Rockford Fosgate and some head units that cost a LOT more).

I am waiting until the creative labs jukebox 2 is released and to see the specs. I would rather spend a few pound more and have ALL of my disks available to me rather than save a few quid and still have to have CD's to swap around.

Anyway back to the topic, dont rule out the portable choice!

phonos are actually rarer in med-high end head units. you usually need to get an adapter which fits into the cd changer socket and the changer lead goes into this. Loads of lesser brand names have a 3.5mm input jack at the front which is handy for something like MD/MP3 players. Sony changers/HU's use phonos and a control bus lead (unlike kenwood/pioneers generic leads) which make it easier. I dunno if the bus lead is needed to select the input on the HU though.

i have a kenwood MASk unit (1999 spec) this doesnt have ANY sort of phono in.

I can get a lead for the CD changer that has 2 phono leads out (if anybody has a link on how to make your own please tell!, as i think the connections are generic), for £25.

But i would then have to get rid of my multichanger. But if i had ALL my cd's on a creative DAP jukebox i wouldnt need the changer!!

But its selling the changer that would be the problem, i wouldnt get much for it.

homerjhandley you can get adapters with a pass thru for your changer. I know the pioneer (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/CarProducts/CarProductDetails/0,1429,91,00.html) one I was thinking about does.

Does anyone know much about or have a Kenwood Z828MP - their latest mp3 model.

Looks pretty good, but can only managed to find one review of it online, which said a few bad things about it - one being the way it displayed the mp3 titles.

Cheers;)

Forgive me for being dumb (I know little about car audio stuff) but does the mStation handle radio as well?

Also, have you heard about the Pioneer hard drive player (DEH-P90HDD). Have a look at this link: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/CarProducts/CarProductDetails/0,1429,21417,00.html

You can record from a CD to the hard drive in your car!!! Very nice.

If anyone does know about this do you know what the price is likely to be (released in Apirl in UK I believe).

One thing to bare in mind is that if you don't own a portable MP3 CD Player, are you going to keep putting MP3s on CDRWs all the time? If so fair enough, but I know for one that I would soon end up with one CD with 120 songs on it that never changed.

If you can get a hard drive one then you are far more likely to end up with most of your music collection in the car. It may even be that you make your own (assuming the car has audio inputs). It would be pretty straight forward to do. There are several examples floating around on the 'net.

it doesn't need to. this is done by your existing headunit (which you will require to plug the mStation into)

After a bit of research I found this out too. Thanks though stoneranger. But I don't think my headunit has a phono input so I was hoping to use the jukebox as my main head unit. I suppose I'll have to buy a cheap CD/FM headunit with a phono input.

You could probably use an FM modulator. This converts phono outputs to an FM signal that the radio on your existing unit can tune into on a preset. The quality with a decent modulator is pretty impressive.
