I have a Pioneer 545 DVD player and a Marantz 4200 Amp. I have noticed that
recently when watching films that the sound drops out for a fraction of a
second. It happened about 4 times during Moulin Rouge, but when i checked
the same points in the film later on there was no drop out so it can't be
the disc. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Thanks
Tom

This is quite a common problem. I have the same trouble with my Wharfedale 750S player and Pioneer amp - I only have sound drop outs with some dts disks.

The problem lies with the player, not the amp (in my experience). I have played dts disks through my tv speakers and the sound still drops out. Some disks are worst than others e.g. T2 R1 doesn't have any sound probs in dts but Cast Away R1 drps out every few seconds!

I'd like to know exactly what is going wrong with the dts tracks in the dvd players.

My Wharfedale 750s used to drop out regularly when playing DTS discs and occasionally on Dolby Digital discs. The problem was semi-alleviated by placing the player at the top of the hi-fi stack and keeping the top clear, so it would appear to be a problem with mine was overheating.

The problem was completely eliminated when I replaced the player with an LG 4710.

That's why a lot of people didn't keep theirs for long when it first came out.

I replaced mine with a Pioneer and it cured the problem completely..
