View Full Version : Banana plugs in sound system
When I moved in to my house the previous owner had two pair of speaker cables under the solid wooden floor with banana plugs attached at both ends. My surround sound system just take the wire. Is there a way of using this cable in my surround sound system (ie cut off banana plugs?)
If your amp doesn't have the ability to take bananas (sometimes you need to lift off a cover on the speaker screw down terminals) then yes, you can either cut off and restrip, or probably just unscrew the banana plug and take the already stripped wire out.
Its one of the read and black lever on both the amp and speaker (cheap all in one-er) so do you think there might be the connection behind this?
If it's just got cheapie spring clips then no it won't.
If it has proper screw down posts then it might - if there's a blanking cap hump on top of it see if it comes off. I got a couple of the same model of Denon amp a few years back, and one had blanking caps with banana sockets underneath and the other was just solid with no sockets.
