what are the dvds like of all the Pixar films to date such as Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and A Bug's Life ?

I know, i should be ashamed of myself but after watching the terrific Monsters Inc last night i would really like to get Pixars other films on dvd.

Some of them look very pricey though

A Bugs Life:Collectors Edition (R1) on play.com costs £31.99

Though the special features do look interesting.

all of the ones you mention have excellent transfers (due to them coming from a digital source) in other words, their perfect...

id get the Ultimate Boxset for Toy Story 1 + 2, and the 2 Disc Bug's Life if you want all the features...

btw, i picked up the Bug's Life 2-disc from www.futureent.com for £23 delivered

oh excellent, thats a lot cheaper than play's nearly a tenner cheaper!

After watching Monsters Inc i've got a really big urge to watch all computer animated films made so far.

Every one i have seen so far has been great such as Shrek, Antz and all of Pixars films.

Looks like the dvds are just as good as the films

Monsters Inc is brilliant and will be one of the top DVDs when it's released :)

The Pixar ones you mentioned are excellent and a superb transfer for the reasons already mentioned.

There is no point whatsoever in going for pirate versions of Pixar discs, no matter how tempted you are - the official DVDs are sensationally good, and their all-digital transfers cannot possibly be matched by pirate versions.

All you need are the Bug's Life collector's edition and the R1 Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box, and you've got the lot!

The R1 'Toy Story 1 & 2 - Ultimate Toy Box' 3 disc set (with more extras and MUCH better packaging than the R2), is £36 delivered from www.absound.ca

I'm just curious MB what exactly made you want to make that statement ?

Maybe i worded what i said wrong, i saw Monsters Inc at the cinema in a preview showing! I was just talking about Pixars other films which were available on dvd! :)

There's no way in hell i'd ever consider buying a pirate dvd i like my quality too much! :D

I was wondering that. I'm drunk as a skunk right now and thought it must have been me.

MB, were you down the pub 'n all?

My apologies – I mixed this thread up with the other current one about pirate Monsters Inc discs!

(I have such limited time to access the forums these days that I read them very quickly, with all that that implies!)

R1 Toy Story Ultimate Boxset (which is superb) is only £33.99 at Play.

What are you waiting for?

The standard R1 TS1/2 boxset is only £18, compared to the R2 at £29?? Is there a difference in the content or the quality? Also the 2 R2 films are available separately in their sale at £13 each - do you get anything more in the boxset?

BTW These prices are from play.com

Is it possible to get Luxo Junior on DVD...this is the film that turned me onto CGI animation and i'd love to have it sitting proudly in my collection.

Highlander - the film disks in the Ultimate Box are different from the standard issues - you get a commentary and isolated effects track (which is superb - a lot more entertaining than you'd think).

~phunk~ - I'm pretty sure Luxo Jr is in the aforementioned box, on the TS1 disk.

Is it the ultimate to box...i've been toying with getting that for ages and if it came with Luxo Junior, it would clinch it for me!

Yup, the Region 1 Ultimate Toy Box does indeed have two of Pixar's early shorts - the Academy Award Winning "Tin Toy" on disc 1 and "Luxo Jr" on disc 2. I seem to remember a few snippits from other shorts on Pixar's website - I know there was about half of the "For The Birds" short that preceeded Monsters Inc on the site :) If you have any interest in the processes behind the films then it's well worth paying more for the extras.

...yup. And Mr Biggles is right - it's on disk 2, whilst disk 1 has Tin Toy.

FYI, A Bug's Life CE has two shorts also: Fleabie and Geri's Game.

You really can't go wrong with these two sets.

Looks like you're into the extra that'll be available on these discs in which case the already mentioned Ultimate Toybox and Bugs Life: Special Edition (both R1) are the ones to go for.

If it is only the films you are interested in I've just found this boxset (http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?item_id=42102). Looks to contain the 2 disc Toy Story boxset plus the Gold Collection version of Bug's Life.

A reasonable price, although I'd still be inclined to go for the other extra laden, albeit more expensive, option.
