Does anyone know if the iPhone uses the same connector as a standard iPod?

I have an Alpine headunit which I connect my Mk1 Nano to, and Im hoping to connect an iPhone to it.

Thanks

BUT...

The iphone 3G will only charge from 5v, and a lot of car kits (mine included) only provide 12v charging...

There is an adaptor available from here...

...but they're hand made and not cheap.

I can confirm they work fine though.

If they work with a standard ipod they should work on an iphone...

BUT...

on mine all the ipods Ive tried worked a treat, as did my 2g iPhone.

When i tried a friends 3G whilst it worked fine (albeit without charging) the steering controls and head unit controls did not function.

This is an xcarlink
