Saw this on Friday night. Must say it was surprisingly good. I wouldn't have chosen to see this normally, but my girlfriend wanted to see it (I think she has a thing for Ethan Hawke).

Denzel Washington really surprised me in his role. It was completely different to the kind of stuff he normally does. I always saw him as quite a boring actor, but this film was thoroughly gripping. I couldn't have been more gripped if my head was in a vice.
It's quite violent though. (Not that that bothers me).

Anyone else seen it?

Yep, pleasently surprisedd. Just when I thought they couldnt think of anything original for any mroe cop films, this came along, and it was truly gripping. Had its faults, but a good 8/10 I'd give this one.... Superb acting, both worthy of Oscar noms I think... Worth watching, but as you said, it is quite violent, so if you dont like vioelnce, maybe you should avoid this.... But I really liked it! :)

saw this film on saturday and was also pleasantly surprised.

the trailer made me think it was going to be like "colors" (fresh faced rookie has a jolting introduction to the harshness of life on the streets) but I was pleased to find that it was a well scripted crime thriller with plenty of plot twists and stomach-knotting suspense.

Denzel washington (never really proven himself to be anything other than competant, in my book) goes balls out in a bravura performance and showed that given the right material he can deliver the goods.

Def. worth another watch when it comes out on DVD.

Another one not over keen on the film. Thought Denzel was excellent to be fair, and really got into the opening half hour. However, just thought it got less and less interesting, and didn't think setting the film over a single day helped it much, The last third just got silly too, a shame as I'd been looking forward to the film.
