View Full Version : 360 is playing up.. No visual output.
I was happily playing Fallout earlier, and the colours suddenly went funny with some heavy banding... It occaisionaly flicked back to normal, but would quickly go back to badness.
A restart initially sorted it, but within 10 mins it went bad again, so I switched it off and left it. Now however, there's no visual output at all.. Just a black screen - I can hear the logo and what not booting up in the background though.
I've reseated all cabling with no joy, and the panel itself works fine.
What now? I bought it (Elite Version) from Game last January.
I think off the the broken Xbox thread. :( Colours going funny sounds like the graphics chip - and it sounds like the same thing that happened to my second one, eventually it just red ringed. Leave it overnight and see how it is in the morning, I would.
Its from Game, though, and they're pretty good and its less than a year old, so they should just exchange over the counter.

I had the same thing happen to mine. It seems it was overheating. Gave it a few inches extra breathing space and has been fine ever since.
Had the same problem with my original premium, I did the Xbrace mod on it and it worked fine after that.
Had it working for over a week to make sure then sold it as faulty but working on ebay.
Bought a new Pro but mainly to get the Hdmi socket.
If it's less than a year old though I'd take it back first though.

Cheers.. I'm not so convinced it's over heating now. It hasn't moved sinced buying it, and this problem started out of the blue yesterday. I'd be quite happy if it did just red ring now, as at least that's nice and clear cut..
I'll contact Game, and see where I stand.
Sounds like the GPU is overheating, probably connected with the x-clamp situation, I've repaired these for friends and it's a pretty simple matter as andy30 says - the board warps and the gpu moves a little away from the heatsink, and MS tends to put tons of horrible thermal compound on it, I've seen it look like a wad of dried chewing-gum on there.
If you're in warranty it's worth taking it back to Game for a replacement, as come next Jan you won't be able to get it replaced if it reoccurs, unless it goes all the way to a RROD.
Mine never moved from the day it was released, plenty of space around it as well.
I was unfortunate in the fact it didn't red ring in over a week so couldn't get it fixed for free.
I was told that over time the mainboard can bend making a bad contact with the heatsinks, how true this is I don't know.
But when I tightened the heatsinks down with screws instead of the original xbrace it started working again.
Any way hope you get a result with Game.
