This morning I heard a fantastic song called Opium Tea (I think) & would like to explore a bit more; any suggestions on where to start?

That Track dosen't ring any bells but my fav cave Album is the Abattoir blues/Lyre of Orphius double album. It's proberly his most accsesable album too.

I started with Murder Ballads and it's still one of my favourites.
Opium Tea is off the b-sides collection, might be a good idea to get that or the best of and see what takes your interest and delve into the albums on that basis. Stylistically the Bad Seeds evolve/change with each album so it's difficult to recommend where would be a good place to start.
Murder Ballads is fantastic though (The Curse of Millhaven still makes me chuckle to this day) as is The Boatman's Call, which is my favorite album of all time. Totally different albums to each other though...

Wouldn't go for the b-sides first. Got that and then Tom Waits rarities for xmas and Waits was the superior collection as too many "acoustic" versions on the Cave set.
See here (http://www.thedvdforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=491768&highlight=nick+cave) for another thread including discussions of what albums to buy though just buy the best of first then lyre of orpheus and murder ballads before trying owt else

Thanks chaps, much appreciated
Murder Ballads is great, as is Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus. I also recommend No More Shall We Part, The Boatman's Call and Let Love In.

I have recently bought the Cavesters discography...
I would maybe start wth Abattoir Blues/Lyre Of Orpheus.
Then maybe Murder Ballads and the "Best of", if you can get on with the earlier tracks on the "Best Of", then maybe wait till the New Year to start buying, as Mute are releasing the early albums as 2 disc remasters. I find the sound on the current releases very poor.
I would also recommend Dig, Lazarus, Dig and the Grinderman album.

Just picked up my copy of Nick Hornby's 31 Songs and re-read the chapter on the Mellowing of Nick Cave.
The quote
"The most powerful and misanthropic song on The Boatman's Call was entitled 'People Ain't No Good': you knew you were never going to hear it while trying on a pair of jeans or tucking into an Egg McMuffin."
But just waiting for it to be in Shrek 2 (and even weirder not covered)
Personally I don't think he's ever bettered Henry's Dream. Amazing album that is.

Just got an email from Mute...they have the complete Albert hall cd for £8...
This is the some of the text from the mail...
"This album was originally intended to accompany The Best of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds album released in 1998 as a bonus disc. Due to a deadline with the Japanese licensee a 9 song version had to be delivered before all mixing was finished and Mute were unable to present the finished version at that time for contractual reasons. We are pleased to be able to finally present this live recording in its completed form."
This is available through mail order only, may be a limited pressing (but I am not 100% sure on that)
Also, any news on the remasters? I am not fussed at all about 5.1 mixes, but would like the stereo remasters (I trust these will be sold seperately like Mute have done in the past)

Cave's got a new book out next month. The trails of Bunny Monroe.
His first novel 'The ass saw the angel' is a cracker and well worth a read.

Cave's got a new book out next month. The trails of Bunny Monroe.
The Death of Bunny Munro :D
Website here where you can order a limited edition box set and read the first chapter: http://www.thedeathofbunnymunro.com/
Also a short extract read by Mr Cave on the Guardian's site: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/video/2009/jul/13/nick-cave-death-bunny-munro
Really looking forward to this. Read And The Ass Saw The Angel way back when it first came out when I was a teenager, and still love it. This is sounding really good too.

Very tempted by the audio book version, though I wish I ordered it a few days ago when it was only £15 - it is up to £21 now
Death of Bunny Munro audio book (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=8&url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1847675476/thedvdforums-21)
I would never normally go for an audio book, but this sounds like it might be the best way of experiencing the book.
I really must get to reading 'And The Ass Saw The Angel' too. I have it but not got around to it, though my wife has read it and thought it was excellent.
