I have this player in the champagne variety. Has anyone else got the 717. I have had it for 11 months now and it gives an excellent picture coupled with my WEGA fx 60.

I would be interested in hearing other people's views on this player.

I personally love it, even though it doesn't have a 5.1 decoder built in.

I also have a 717 in black. Have had it for a couple of years now and it has served me well.

I find it a little noisy - not sure how it compares with other players but I do notice the spinning when I first put on a movie. I then either don't hear it later on or the player gets quieter as it warms up?

It would be nice to have a standby button on the unit itself instead of having to use the remote to put it into standby after removing the disc but that's about my only quibble with it.

Oh, and the DVD layer change is almost always noticable.

I would be interested to know how much of a difference in picture quality there is, if any, between the 717 and the 747 (717's replacement).

Any people out there who know please let me know.

I had an early 717, and it was a nice player, although the region mod was a pain as it had to be done each time I wanted to change regions. It also suffered from the lip sinc problem.

Erm, DV747 replaces DV939A and DV747.... DV747 replaced the DV717 2 years ago. There was a big difference detweent he Dv717 and 737 (no lip sync issues being the major upgrade), and as for quality of the Dv747, theres plenty of other threads discussing this currently, but it would appear that the Dv747 is THE player to own currently....

I have the champagne one aswell. I've had it for two years now.

I have to agree it can get a bit noisy but you soon forget about that when the movie starts.

I noticed the lip sync problems at the beginning but these days all the discs I play on it seem to be alright.

I'm still happy with it with it connected to my Sony 36FS70:D

I don't understand what the problem is with it not having a standby button on the machine itself?

You press the power button on the remote and it goes into standby. What's wrong with that?

You don't have to remove a disc and then put it into standby - well I don't anyway. I just stop the disc and then press the power button on the remote and it's in standby. Easy.

Please explain what the problem is. Perhaps I've missed something? :)

I've owned a 717 of the champagne variety for over two years and I have no gripes at all. I wasn't even aware that the noise on start up was something out of the ordinary.
I've just had the machine chipped for multiregion and it plays everything fine.

There isn't really a problem - but why should I have to carry the remote handset to the machine with me when I've finished watching a film and want to put it back on the shelf, and put the player into standby. Maybe I'm just being picky!

Watch this space.

I have had my 717 for almost three years now and it has been my one and only DVD player.

However I recently bought a new Toshiba widescreen TV and want to take advantage of the Component video inputs aswell as give DVD-Audio a try and have today ordered myself a spanky new 747a :)

Should be delivered in about a week - I cant wait :)
