Any word on a soundtrack re-release? Some two-disc sets of the complete scores would go down nicely.

This release includes a lot of unreleased music, but it does not have all the music.
And there are some production oddities. For example, the original album from Raiders of the Lost Ark included a shortened version of the Desert Chase cue, but the Expanded Edition released in 1995 included the complete version. The new set however includes the shortened version once again.

That set sounds good to me. I didn't go for the Supes one because that sucker was overkill for a sometime fan like myself, but the Indy collection looks delicious.

Well I already have the expanded edition of the Raider's soundtrack and the original edition for Last Crusade. I was forced to download Temple of Doom because I couldn't buy it anywhere for a reasonable price so I'm looking forward to this BIG TIME. :D

Mods, is it worth spinning this off into its own thread in the music forum? I don't want to derail any dvd discussion and it might come to more people's attention with its own thread.
Good idea Jazz
Thanks for the heads up on this btw, this is a set that I just have to get.
Moving to Music & DVD
I'm going to use this to teach my mum how to use the internet for shopping...so she can give it to me for Christmas! :D
This has gone down to £22.99 now at HMV (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=10&url=http://hmv.com/hmvweb/advancedSearch.do?searchType=2&pGroupID=1&artist=&title=&catalogue=7231000&primaryID=1&tduid=742dc00c61692047570f560691fa6b23).

Mods, is it worth spinning this off into its own thread in the music forum? I don't want to derail any dvd discussion and it might come to more people's attention with its own thread. So no one is interested? Not even for £17.99 (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=525979)?
So what do we think of the soundtracks? The original trilogy contains some of the best music that Williams has ever composed I think. The Map Room from Raiders is worth the price alone. I'm enjoying Call of the Crystal more and more too.
Well, I think a lot of us expressed interest up there, didn't we?

Yeah but my suggestion that more people would be interested came after that.
good job i checked back into this thread or else i would have paid £29.99.
Hmm. It's gone back up to £23. I wonder why.
I'm looking forward to the expanded Last Crusade and hoping somewhere there's an explanation of the track 'Keeping Up with the Joneses', which I don't remember ever occurring in the film. Hopefully this set will be like the old (OLD) Star Wars Soundtrack Anthology from c. 1994 that I have. The booklet with that was amazingly comprehensive and explained all that sort of stuff. I still haven't gotten around to buying the even more extended Special Edition soundtracks from the original trilogy, though. I really should do...

Apparently there is very little in the way of notes in this set which is quite disappointing.
Also, it's not as complete as it could be - some of the tracks are the edited versions that appeared on the original soundtracks (Desert Chase in Raiders and the shortened end credits music from Temple) which again is disappointing as it's unlikely these scores are going to get released again in the near future. It does seem like a bit of a missed opportunity.
But that said I'm really looking forward to getting this set and £17.99 is a real bargain.
Oh and ThoGB, you should really look at getting the SE soundtracks of the original Star Wars trilogy as they are outstanding. I can only hope that the prequels get the same treatment one day.
mines was sent out yesterday by the amazon seller.

Mine showed up yesterday too. I'm listening to Raiders right now. I'd forgotten how good this soundtrack is. I can't get enough of the Ark theme, every time it crops up I get goosebumps.
Mine showed up yesterday as well but I haven't had the opportunity to listen to any of it yet. I just ordered this a bit blind as this was something I just had to own so never released the booklets and stuff they came with it. Thanks again for the heads up. If anyone else wants this CD-Wow (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=12) are currently the cheapest at £18.49.

One slight annoying thing for me is that the end credits theme for Temple of Doom still isn't exactly like it is in the film, where the Short Round theme overlays the Indy theme earlier. Thought this set would finally fix that, but alas no. Very geeky of me to notice that, but there you go...
Got mine yesterday. Great to finally have expanded editions of Temple & Last Crusade.
It's a great set for the price, but I do have a few tiny niggles;
1. Horrible disc art. TOD seems especially random.
2. Digipacks. Ugh (the spine of my Last Crusade got squished in the post too :( ).
& disc 5 only gets a cheapo card sleeve?
3. The booklets: some nice photos, but practically no notes (none at all from Williams) & was it necessary to print exactly the same page of text from Laurent Bouzereau in the first 3 booklets?
As I say, only tiny niggles. Top set otherwise & a total bargain.
I hav'nt fully listened to the interview on disc 5 but some of it is lisfted straight of the dvd release which is a little cheap.
I thought it would be all new recordings and i'am guessing some of it willbe off the KOTCS dvd aswel. Also the raiders march on disc 5 runs just over 2 mins. The version on the "John Williams: 40 years of film boxset" is just over 5 mins.
Now to be fair i've only skimmed through the raiders disc and disc 5, i'am hopping that the 5min version is from the end credits.
Got mine today. Really happy with the £17.99 price for nearly 6 hours of music.
I've not listened to them yet so I can only comment on the packaging. Really nice box, faux brown leather with gold embossed hat and whip on the front.
I don't mind the cardboard digipaks - although as said above the Temple Of Doom cover art is a little bit of a weird choice.
Majority disappointed with the notes though (basically there aren't any). It's certainly no Superman Blue Box http://supermancinema.co.uk/daily_planet/soundtrack2008/bookexcerpts.asp although it didn't cost £75 either.
Will give it a listen tomorrow.
Sounds like I am waiting for a great bargain
Okay, so I got this for Christmas. I was impressed to see that the interviews disc only has 18 minutes of interviews with the rest given over to extra cues missing from the other discs.
So now I just have to work out what stuff on here might be missing or different from the SE of Raiders and the CDs of Temple and Last Crusade that I already have so I can put together everything and save too much overlapping.
(I'm hoping I'll find a definitive answer online ;))
