Having recently watched Chungking Express ( not a great disc but fabulous film ) and finally got around to ordering In The Mood For Love I was wondering what other Leung films are available on dvd and worth a watch? Also does anyone know if there is a release date yet for Chungking Express on reg 1? My reg 2 copy definitely doesn't do the film justice :(

excellent - any idea whether this release will be an improvement or is likely to be as bad as the region 2 release?

In the hopefully not-too-distant-future, Hong Kong Legends will be releasing A Bullet in the Head, in which lovely Tony Leung Chiu Wai shines like the star he is. (In my house he's 'Little Tony', to differentiate him from 'Lanky Tony' Leung Kar Fai) It's a far cry from his Wong Kar Wai stuff, but it's a great movie.

From www.coolashop.com you can pick up loads of his stuff, but I'd recommend Wong Kar Wai's Happy Together and Ashes of Time, as well as A Chinese Ghost Story 3 and second Hard Boiled, which is fantastic - unlike most of the dvds it comes on. He's very good in Jackie Chan's Gorgeous, but his performance is little more than an extended cameo. Tokyo Raiders is supposedly pretty good, and it's available in R2, though I confess I haven't seen it.

He's lined up to appear in WKW's next film, 2046, and co-star with Maggie Cheung again in Zhang Yimou's Hero, along with Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi and Donnie Yen. Should be a belter...

Also, check out the Longest Nite, which is kind of like a HK Usual Suspects, starring Tony leung Chiu Wai & Sean Lau Ching Wan

Just having a look at this on DDDhouse, is the Universe HK DVD any good?

Yeah, it's pretty good quality for a HK dvd. Practically no artifacting as well, which is good considering it's such a darkly lit film!

Gah... totally forgot about The Longest Nite. I'll second that as being a really good film on a fairly good disc. Anything with Lau Ching Wan is worth watching, though. I won't say too much, but the 'taxi ride' scene in this movie is just... unbelievable. :D

Hi, another slightly different film (vietnames-french) from tony Leung Chiu-Wi: Cyclo by Tran Anh Hung.

There's a french R2 dual package with L'odeur de la Papaye verte that has english subs.
