Think I'll resist buying the R3 version!
"Dimension and Buena Vista have just officially announced the DVD release of The Others for May 14th. The 2-disc release will SRP for $29.99. There's no word yet on extras, but I think anamorphic widescreen at least is safe to assume."

Beautiful - an absolute certain purchase for me. Hopefully the DTS track will appear on this release just to peeve off those R3 buyers! :D
Yeah but you have a 3 month wait. I don't bother with most extras, the film is the main thing and if it has a good picture as region 1 then I'd rather buy the region 3 now rather than wait.
But for those who want the extras then region 1 it is!

R3 has no anamorphic picture so R1 gains there!

Obviously the region 1 will be better in terms of anamorpic picture and extras but for the price and early release, I am opting for region 3.
I have had taxi 2 and the gift on region 3 and they both have an excellent picture on my Sony Wega playing through my Pioneer 717. If the picture looks as good as these 2 I will be happy. From what I have gathered from another post on The Others, someone has already viewed the region 3 relaese while in Hong kong and reported back saying the picture was excellent.

To be honest, with a film as visually and aurally subtle as <I>The Others</I> I'd want the best possible transfer - which means anamorphic enhancement is an absolute bare minimum.
If I really wanted the R1 then I could easily sell my R3 (cost £9) and get my money back on it. :)
im opting for the region 3 right now just because i want to see it now and because of the great price.
Also anamorphic enhancement isnt exactly going to do much for me as i have a 28" 4:3 tv so it's not exactly a major advantage.
Anyway, it will be easy to get rid off on Ebay anyway.
How does this e-bay malarky work then? Is it safe?
ebays an online auction site, its pretty safe if you are the seller cos you don't need to send the goods till payment has cleared.
kc, I presume payment is mostly done through cheques? Am I right? Is it just a case of supplying your address to buyer via email and then receiving cheque, waiting for it to clear and then sending the goods to buyer?
you can set your own policy on a sale. Majority are done via cheque, paypal or nochex. The buyer(s) bids for the item you're selling (you can set a reserve price), you email the winner your details for payment, and you send the goods when it suits you (usually when payment goes through or straight away if you trust the buyer), the sellers/buyers have ratings similar to the forums GTT.
EDIT: check out ebays own how to tours (http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/index.html) :)

For the price of the R3 version you can afford to use it as lower-lip jewelery when the R1 comes out!

Forgive me for asking a stupid question but what is the forums GTT?
its the forums rating system for traders in the classifieds forum (good traders thread) check it out here (http://thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=476550) :)

Although I have yet to test it the R3 has a DTS soundtrack as well as a DD 5.1 ST :p ... and lets remember its only a fiver!
Transfer rate is between 6.5 and 8 mainly.

Only if you live in Hong Kong. :( For us the cheapest is about £9 after shipping costs.

Yeah I am living in HK at the moment and even though it may seem like I am rubbing it in with all these cheap retail prices that I have been seeing ... I really only mean to give you guys an indication on what you should be paying when you order through R3 retailers who at the end of the day seem to make a 2 pound profit on each DVD they sell!
I'ld rather give HK £2 than the UK £10 ;)
I'm trying to get rid of my copy of the R3 version if anyone is interested?
