The news that Titanic is to get a new release in 2003 got me thinking about another James Cameron film that definitely needs revisiting. I'm talking about Aliens of course. All we have on DVD is the Special Edition version of the film. Now there is nothing wrong with this version, some of the scenes add something to the overall film but I do think the disc should be re-released with the option to select either the original Theatrical version or the Special Edition version. I realise that this could be seen as another method by which the film companies are cashing in on the format but I personally think that the film should be available with both version of the film. What do other people think?

well yeah I agree with you from the point of view that the other cameron films have all got that option but it'd seem like a bit of a rip-off really, unless he does a commentary for it in which case I'd buy it. Personally I'd like to see this at the cinema as I never had the chance being only 6 at the time of it's release (although I'd prefer to see the special edition at the cinema over the original)

This could be released again in a better version, although the one available is pretty good. I agree about the option to view both the original cut & director's cut and while the extra's on the existing disc are OK, they could be more comprehensive.

A commentary would be most welcome + an in-depth docu/behind the scenes footage/interviews wouldn't go amiss.

What I'd really like to see is a Director's cut SE of Alien 3 with full input from Fincher. Doubt this will happen anytime soon, though. :(

The current R2 DVD is pretty rubbish actually... it has what I call "the illusion of special features". A 10 minute interview with Cameron, 5 minutes-worth of tiny 20-second special-effects test pieces without sound, and a big image gallery. And a trailer. That's all. Compared to today's DVDs, this is a pathetically small amount of features. Hell, it is nearly bare-bones.

I'd love a re-release with the original version or the special edition version through seamless branching (because although the extra scenes are really good, I feel the film drags with the extra length). I doubt we'll ever squeeze a commentary track out of Cameron, so there should be a good hour or more of documentary footage.

deleted scenes and interviews with the cast would be nice as well.
