My 360 died this am with the 3 red rings of doom... second time in 2 years. It's going back for repair and upon its return, I'm seriously contemplating flogging it and buying a second hand PS3 instead. It's mainly going to be for playing games but I can also watch blu rays on it too I suppose (for watching special features on discs, to save bulb hours from my hd-projector). I'd really appreciate some objective opinions for and against this notion please.:shrug:

Thats what i did

Of course i am now missing out on GOW2 but im sure LBP will ease that pain.

I've got both. The 360 is used for almost all games playing because I prefer the controller and I like accumulating Gamer points. The PS3 is a BR player first and foremost but I also use it for the exclusive games. I suppose it depends on how many games you already own and if you still like getting the points.

I don't think you'll find many people who would recommend switching from the 360 to a PS3 if you want to play games.

Except maybe if you only play the big multiformat titles..

Don't, in terms of gaming the 360 is light years ahead.
Try and get yourself a newer model Xbox, they are far more reliable nowadays.

If you want to play all the best games, then you're best off sticking with your 360. I honestly couldn't name a single PS3-exclusive game of interest.

I'd like to think that when the new update is here and we can install games to the HD this will cut down on a lot of problems.. I hope!

I only own a ps3, so I am apparently meant to be biased. However, from your comments above I would say stick with your xbox. You are a gaming person and the xbox is a gaming platform. The ps3 can be used for games but currently I would say its still mainly a media player for which I love it so :)

Ditto.

So far in 2008, I have played and completed MGS4 (two days) and played the LBP beta for an afternoon. That is the sum total of all gaming I have done on the PS3 this year. I have charged the Dual Shock once this year (i use the BR remote for BR and media viewing).

I read these threads a fair bit and can never understand why anyone would even consider a PS3 as a replacement gaming console for the 360.

I have a ps3 its a lovely bit of kit ..... for watching Blu-rays and xvids.

But for games and the hole online side the 360 is the way to go. I got the rrod a few weeks ago.

Just bought a new cheap 360 and keep the old one I got back from Microsoft as a back up.

If you get the newer 360 model as your replacement, its probably as reliable as the ps3 with its laser problems.

I got my 360 about a month after its launch, i'm now on my 4th (just had my first RRoD ), i got a PS3 from the classifieds on here about 4 or 5 months ago, so far have only done an hour on GT5 Prologue and a few games on Buzz, other than that its just a glorified bluray player, the only game that is tempting me is MGS4, but I have a habit of losing interest with no achievements........

Wow!!!

Indeed an overwhelming response and I'm actually quite surprised by the unanimous agreement.

Well, it's packed and ready to be picked up by UPS today... here's hoping MS wave their magic screwdriver over it and send it back to work properly.

Thans everybody, really appreciate your input.
