View Full Version : Must have XBOX games?

Price finally reached what I was happy to pay today, so I bought one from Asda. I've put it off as I figured I might as well wait till there are loads of cheaper games and just stay a bit off the pace.

So, other than Oblivion, what have I missed that's well, unmissable? (I have played Oblivion to death on pc).

I like rpgs, strategy, but am open to lots of different types of games.

I haven't signed up to Xbox Live yet but suppose I will (I'm getting the impression that this is pretty much vital to get the most of the machine).

Never played games on a 42" screen before

bioshock and condemned 1, condemned 1 should be pretty cheap now.

you could look at metacritic.com for the top 10 xbox360 scoring games.

http://www.metacritic.com/games/xbox360/

they have GTA4 as number 1, then bioshock, orange box, gears of war, then obliv.

It aint cheap yet, but Dead Space is quickly becoming a must have for me.

Apart from that, I'd agree with Condemned 1, Gears of War, Call Of Duty 4, plus I'd suggest Crackdown at a bargain price.

Hmmm, in addition to what has already been mentioned -

Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata (Woolies (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=90&url=http://www.woolworths.co.uk/web/jsp/product/index.jsp?pid=50955668&_requestid=114272) have this for £8.99 atm) and Crackdown (i just noticed eye writ mentioned this too but it is really good and you can get it cheap these days) is what I would recommend.

On the Xbox Live marketplace I'd suggest you try Braid, Castle Crashers, N+ and Pinball FX.

Also my pick of upcoming releases would be Fallout 3 (from Bethesda, the makers of Oblivion and out next friday), The Last Remnant (new Square-Enix rpg), Mirror's Edge and Prince of Persia.

Yup if you like RPGs then Lost Odyssey is a must, pick it up for around £25 new and prepare to throw away over 100 hours on it :)

Notice everyone saying Condemned 1. I'm quite new to the 360 myself - played for less than a week, then bust my finger, so having withdrawal symptoms right now.

Still, picked up a few games in the meantime, and Condemned 2 is one of them. Reckon it's worth picking up C1 first then?

Only game I was really playing was Lost Planet, which was a blast.

For anyone considering Condemned, I picked it up for £10 in Zavvi yesterday alongside Deadspace for £35.

condemned 2 is sucky, all the points are for the online lame game. play 1 first. 2 follows the story (and i liked the single player in both)

Yeah and in my local Zavvi you can get both Condemned games on the 360 for £25, rude not too!

You've picked a REALLY bad time to get a 360 tbh, there are a shedload of great games to play through already out there and a ton more coming before the end of the year, there's just not enough hours in the day!

I picked up Bioshock cheap but hadn't played it as I'd gotten addicted to GTA4, but I've now started it and it's really good, once you get into . Recommend that. GTA4 is fantastic, and must if you like that sort of thing. I really liked CoD 2 and 3 which are cheap. Still waiting for CoD4 to be cheap but can't find it, despite being out for nearly a year!

Agree with Gears of War as well. Looking forward to 2!

That's why I waited! I'll play all the good games that are cheap and then next year play the ones just coming out now!

Thanks everyone for the tips - I'm making a list!

cheers

If you're into RPGs then you're spoilt for choice: Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Oblivion and Eternal Sonata being the best.

Absolutely essential purchase: THE ORANGE BOX.

Absolutely essential purchase: THE ORANGE BOX.

I've not really been able to get into that. Dunno why. What's the best game in there?

I too went for the Asda deal, which now completes my full 5 pack of consoles, and of all the above only 4 are 360 exclusives, I only want to know about the exclusives unless there is a special reason to get the 360 one (GTA4 DLC etc)

Another thing is what peripherals should I be getting? I've just ordered a quick charge kit and have my eye on a wifi adaptor but what else should I get?

Never thought I'd say this but... Dead Rising.

and viva pinata if your man enough

SheepDip

 Viva Pinata isn't as bad as you'd think. It's sorta trippy and cult feeling.

I'd recommend Bioshock, Mass Effect, COD4 - and with the exception of the latter, can all be found cheap.

I would have recommended Oblivion, but you've played it on the pc, seems a bit senseless to play it on the xbox too.

It's like sacriledge to some, but I really don't rate GTA IV, it just doesn't feel "right". Also Orange Box, this felt to me like a bunch of cheap frustrating pc-only games, it was a massive disappointment after being recommended as the best thing since the invention of sex...but everyone to their own.

I'm playing through HL2 but it seems to me that Portal, now on XBLA, is the best part of TOB. I know many will disagree, but you should at least try Portal now that there's a demo on XBLA.

Do not miss out on Geometry Wars 2. An incredible game, and an exclusive.

Second the love for Dead Rising, though I can see why it would annoy some - I think a lot of the problems people have with it (survivors' AI aside) are what make it so special.
