I was tempted with a TomTom 530 for Advanced Lane Guideance and IQ Maps

I've heard that with any X20 version of TomTom if you get one with on the pack a free month's grace for free updates - then you can upgrade to latest Navcore8 which includes the X30 features

now say - on Empiredirect they have a 520 - for 119 - would I be right in thinking that would come with the free months worth of updates

in summary I know that:

Refurbs do not come with a months grace

but do all new ones come with the month, or only "select packs"

thanks ,Mark.

I was in the same position as you 3 weeks ago. After reading up on related forums I went for the 520 purchased from Halfords which was the cheapest at the time, saving somewhere in the region of £80 on the 530.
I then updated the application software to 8.010 and once i had done this used the Latest Map Guarantee to update my map to the version 810.1870.
I now have a 520 that operates the same as a 530 with lane guidance and IQ routing etc.

The free months update that you mention is actually the 'Latest Map Guarantee' this allows you ONE free update of your map within a month of the date of purchase. Make sure that you update the application software first before you update the map as it may offer you an older map and once you accept the older map you are stuck with it as the version 810 maps require the 8.010 application software.
