Does anyone still have one of these? i know they are a few years old now but ive just dug my old one out as i gave up on it a while ago but decided to see if i can get to the bottom of my problems.

Prob 1)

I cant get it to turn on using batteries, i have replaced them with some brand new AA's but it wont turn on, however it does turn on when connected to the ciggie lighter in the car

prob 2)

i just seem to get acquiring satellites on the screen forever, never seems to pick anything up.

anyone got any advice?

cheers

Yeh mine can be a bit of a git getting it to turn on from battery power. I normally have to keep the power button pressed until the screen kinda flickers, then release and it powers up.

As for the acquiring satellites issue, I reverted back to f/w version 2.7. This seems to be the sweetspot firmware. Download from here. (http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/streetpilot/sp_ix/)

Still using one. Its a bit old now, but it largely does the job. (The problems with tetchy lock-ons and poor ability to reroute are amount the reasons i've been considering replacing it, but i don't use it hugely and its cheap enough to leave in the glove box and not worry about)

I've found the latest firmware is fine. However if you'd not used it for a while, it looses track of the time and were abouts it was last used. If it has this information, it can do say "satalites x and y should be visable". If not, it takes significantly longer to find. (And needs a clear signal, free of trees, etc)

Also might be worth doing a hard reset if your having issues. Press both buttons down for a while I seem to remember.

Mine went through a stage of acquiring satelites for about an hour every time I turned it on but then seemed to fix itself and has been fine since.
I'm also thinking of replacing it with a newer one - I'm fed up of it always trying to redirect me to a road that was on it's originally calculated route whenever I go an alternative way. It never seems to "recalculate" the whole route, only a route to get me back on it's first route.
