You know it's bad when you can just type your credit card(s) number from memory without looking to see what it is.

Yes I know mine off by heart

You really gotta worry when you know that 3-digit number on the back too :)

I know my number off by heart, it's the start/end dates I am never sure about.

I have no DVDs on order or pre-order :(

I had Evil Dead SE & Halloween on order with MVC (with Horseflesh) and they let us down with a vengence... delayed one minute - thanking us for sending back unrecieved dvds the next - and then just cancelling our order the next...

Shower 'a unreliable plebs >

DON'T SHOP AT MVC...

I've 10 on order from DDDHouse & 5 or so with
A&B Canadian... INCREDIBLE REGION 1 Prices...

With Robo to come Monday - hehe...:D

I'm not too bad - yes I have memorised the front and back of my credit card, but in my defence, I only have The West Wing: Season 1 Part 1 on pre-order.

EDIT - Typo

Well Nimak, you have Pearl Harbor on pre order, so I'd have to say you are nuts!

I haven't bought a single DVD since before Christmas, and apart from my Ruscico subscription I don't have any on order either.

So anyone who claims it's a helpless addiction... well, all you need is a bit of willpower! (Or an ultra-cynical question-every-penny fiancée...)

Well, I bought two yesterday in the HMV sale, and have five more coming over the next month. And, although sated at the moment, it'll only be a matter of time before that blessed itch starts to come back...

on th 4th/5th of Jan, I ordered over 400 pounds worth of dvd's. Most pre-order (ST:TNG 1,2) and few other boxsets. Also 11 Stargate SG-1 dvd's and a bunch of others.

That said, in December I didn't order 1 (ok, I didn't have access to a computer during that time either).

I do find it odd that people seem to have fallen in love with the DVD format as much as anything don't you? I don't remember this much devotion to VHS or to CD for that matter. I guess when you are able to watch films in such clarity and with such good sound as is available now in your own home then it does sort of inspire some sort of "emotional attachment".

quote from Michael Brooke

"So anyone who claims it's a helpless addiction... well, all you need is a bit of willpower! (Or an ultra-cynical question-every-penny fiancée...)"

I find the former difficult and the latter just means they get disguised or hidden!

I have tried to be a good boy... I promised before Christmas to limit myself to a couple of discs a month. But then there was the MVC sale, the Godfather special offer, Larry Sanders mis price, Futurama, Ghost World, The Others in R3, the occasional eBay and of course the classifieds forum. Unless I actually relinquish my credit card to my good lady... well let's not even think about that one :)

I though January was going to be a quiet month, but with all the sales, I must've bought nearly 50 discs this month - I'm about two away from 500 now...

LOL about Pearl Harbor i actually thought it was faily good (the action scenes i'm refering to) I'm just a collector at heart.. But i must admit i hardly ever bought VHS Videos - to bulky and crap quality what deterioates with age..

It was no different with Laserdisc, just a whole lot more expensive!

Several on order - and lots & lots to preorder when absound get their act together and list them. I think Feb & March are pretty poor months (there are one or two that are good) but from April onwards it's looking pretty darn good - and expensive :(

 How much $ do you have???? I always ask myself if it is something I really want or if i'd prefer something else. But it is easy to go OTT.

$ or £s? well i tend to worry about money when the Credit card statement arrives my last one was over £600 argh!!

But thankfully the card only gets charged when orders are processed..

I consider myself a compulsive buyer (well on the net anyway) i went to DVDBoxoffice yesterday and clicked on all the upcoming releases (15) (with a few exceptions) and just ordered them all came to about CAN$515 or about £230

But that Evil Dead Limited Edition looks awesome.. the case rules..

One things for sure the government should put a health warning on the front of every disc stating their addictive nature.

I'm a collector at heart - always have been. The thrill is buying the stuff, if it's enjoyable to have too then that's a bonus! ;)

I've collected:

vinyl
cassette
cd
video
laserdisc
dvd

as well as hi-fi equipment, home cinema equipment, photo gear and computer equipment! I don't own a car or have a heavy social life or a girlfriend (unfortunately), but I have managed to restrain myself so that I don't have any debts (other than my mortgage) and don't have credit cards or an overdraft. If I want something I have to have the money available there and then or I won't buy it - it's just that the way I live I have money spare most of the time so I rarely have to wait :D

I'm not addicted. I could stop buying DVDs if I wanted. I could do without them if I had to. I could. It isn't a problem. ;) :D

In all honesty, I was in town yesterday and started hyperventalating at the thought of leaving with no dvds bought. So I ran into HMV and bought 2

I don't have any discs on pre-order and the last dvd I bought was in December.

The next disc I will pre-order will be the R4 JP3 on the 14th March 2002. I will start the day with a shower at precisely 6.45am, having dressed in a dark navy suit, white shirt and blue and purple tie, I will have my breakfast at 7.15 am, consisting of a banana followed by a cereal and rounded off by a cup of tea, milk no suger. Having checked the mail I will leave the house at precisely 7.50am and make my way to the car and proceed to drive to work. Having arrived at work at precisely 8.30am the next 8 hours will be a blur of mind-numbing drudgery that is called my job, the details of which I will spare you. I will finish my work at precisely 5.30pm and get back into my car and proceed to drive home where I will arrive at approximately 6.30pm. Having entered the house I will say hello to the wife and kids I will go upstairs have a shower and change into some casual clothes a non descript t-shirt and jogging pants. I will go downstairs at approximately 6.50pm, make myself a cup of tea accompanied by two chocolate digestives and settle down to watch the first half hour of the Channel 4 news. At 7.30pm supper will be ready and I will join the family to eat. Following supper I will make small talk with the wife and spend some quality time interacting with the kids. At 7.35pm will go on-line and place aforementioned pre-order for JP3.

I'm a 8-4.30 worker.. I hate getting up early (6.30am)

I'm considering quitting.. And becoming a Pornstar LOL

Just messing.. Glad you haven't got the Addiction.. keep it that way it's cheaper..;)

I had a shed load on pre-order for the three months up to Christmas, but then when I saw half of them, on sale after Christmas I was slightly **** off.

So from now on I'm showing some will power and waiting.

Because his post may have been a very cynical and observant joke reminiscent of American Psycho and the way it reflects the anality of DVD buying and collecting??? :D

Well my last girlfriend had seen the DVD light, so that wasn't a problem. But being stoney-broke, that works just as well I find.;) Though I did succumb to M*A*S*H the other week after reading Mike's excellent review, and 13 Days is looking increasingly tempting, so things could well be back on track now (aw, merde!).

I've always been a pretty discerning customer purchasing wise though, so thankfully spending sprees have been mercifully rare (though not unknown).
