The best three films I saw last year were:
Brotherhood of the Wolf
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Shrek
Best so far this year has been:
Behind Enemy Lines
Black Hawk Down
The Last Castle
Well there's very little choice for this year really, I just thought I stick that in. I'm looking forward to seeing From Hell which is out next week along with Monsters Inc. Girl at work saw it on Monday, said it was very good and animation was excellent.
March has a big line up, with the likes of Blade 2 and The Time Machine so plenty to look forward to.
I didn't think 2001 was a great year for films but, what's your Top 3 films from 2001?
I'd say we'll see a familiar Number 1... lol
For what it's worth - after no thought whatsoever...
Fellowship
Shaolin Soccer (saw it this year - dont think its a 2001)
Hannibal

Magnolia, Almost Famous, Final Fantasy (no... seriously), Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Memento, Amores Perros, Battle Royale, Lord of the Rings, Shrek... the list could go on and I know some of these are probably 2000 cinema releases.

Dont know about everybody else but a top threes a ltille restrictive. My current top 3 would be, but this is likely to change depending on mood:
1. Ghost World
2= Moulin Rouge
2= The Devils Backbone
Very close behind, Aturnjuat (saw this at the Edinburgh Film Fest last summer, its about to do the rounds this month and is well worth a few hours of your time), Almost Famous, Traffic, Requiem for a Dream, Amelie, LOTR, Man Who Wasnt There.
All in all not a bad year. Slow start to this year (Mulholland Drive will probably stay the distance, Vanilla Skies and Black Hawk Down probably wont make the top 5 in December - unless its a bad year).

Tough... almost too tough, but:
Amelie
Moulin Rouge
The Man Who Wasn't There
but it was hard to leave out Ghost World, LOTR, Shaolin Soccer...
From UK 2001 release dates:
The Low Down
Sexy Beast
Best in Show
For blockbusters, Spielberg and Scott did well compared to their usual drivel with A.I. and Hannibal.
From January 2002:
Mullholland Dr.
Last Orders
Monsoon Wedding
I don't expect any of these to be on the list at year end though.
1 FOTR
2 Amelie
3 Requiem For A Dream
Didn't know the latter was released in 2001 but a few others have posted it so i'll go with that.

Who wants to compile a Top 5 fave films for 2002 then? :D
Great idea though I really think i'd struggle to name what i'd call 5 "GOOD" films this year I think.
If there's no new thread when I come back online tomorrow i'll kick one off. Gotta dash........

Hehe. I love these old revivals. I hadn't even noticed this was an old thread, and was zipping through it before intending to vote...
Hannibal
You Can Count On Me
A.I.
...based on others' suggestions. Anyway, now that I've unexpectedly seen them, I'm much happier with my original choices.
Oh, and Mulholland Drive is still there at year end! :)
2001:
Fellowship of the Ring
Amelie
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

Maybe you've been watching the wrong films then ;)
IMO it has been slightly disappointing but there were still some great releases:
Y Tu Mama Tambien
The Royal Tenenbaums
Monster's Ball
In The Bedroom
Road To Perdition
Donnie Darko
Mulholland Drive
Lantana
If you haven't seen any of the above, you're missing out, watch them ASAP

Woah very weird to see what i thought worthy of last year.:D
Luckily i got chance to see what i wanted to watch last year this year.
The fact i chose Sowrdfish for my #3 spot must be some indication that i really missed out on a lot of films last year. :o
Joint first , second and third would go to Almost Famous, Moulin Rouge and LOTR as afaic they're all labour's of love with mainstream appeal and films you could watch again as soon as they're over.
IMO of course :p
