Just been offered Touch Pro for Free on Vodafone £30 p/m 250 mins, 150 texts and unlimited internet and email on 24m contract. I know it isn't a brilliant deal, but has anyone done better with Voda or another provider, and if so, how did they do it?
Hi, I with Vodafone and got on an 18 month, £35 contract - 600 minutes, unl texts and unlt internet but I had to pay £50 for the phone so you might be able to do better if you want to... On the website you can get all that with a free phone for £40 a month. Lovely little phone but still with my 14 days return period and not sure if the Xperia will be better....
Is it only available on Vodafone at the moment ?
Also, what are the different providers calling it now ( I think T-Mobile will call it the Vario 4 ? )

Yes, it does appear that Voda are the only providers to carry the phone at the mo. T-Mobile's version (Vario IV ) has still not been released according to the shop manager. I can tell you it is a great phone, and almost the same size and weight as my N81 8gb, and is supplied unlocked. The VGA screen is the "Killer App" for me over the N96 I was going to get
Can you browse using Opera while the Touch Pro is connected to a TV ?

Been looking at getting one of these but have reservations over the screen. Currently have an Iphone and use that primarily to watch video on (on the train on the way into work). My big concern is whats it going to be like watching video on this, the screen is smaller so not sure if its going to be as watchable. Then of course the touch hd is out soon (i hope) and that just may solve the issue??
Thoughts??

I can't answer the Opera on a TV question as you have to buy the TV out cable seperately. As far as the video Vs the Iphone question, I have both, and the Iphone is a bigger screen therefore more watchable, but the Touch Pro has a higher resolution screen and is much more portable so it's personal taste. As I mentioned before, in my case, it's the compactness of the Pro, the VGA screen and the keyboard that works for me...

I hear what you saying about the screen but is the touch pro watchable? I can handle watchable but what I don't want is unwatchable, if you get my meaning :)

Oh Yes, the Pro is very watchable, however if watching video was my main use, I would go for the Iphone any day as the screen is about 1/3 bigger.

I had a play with one of these the other day, it's HUGE. You could build a small house by stacking them up like bricks. The screen is indeed very nice though.
The Nokia E71 wipes the floor with it I'd say, just a shame the E71 is not Windows Mobile and so not quite so flexible when it comes to adding other software.

Fortunately its not my main use only 30 mins each way on the train :). I think I may just go and get these. (will need to put an Orange sim in it though as its the company sim, the wife gets the voda one :) )

called thorough to Vodafone today for an upgrade (admittedly 3months early) and got quoted £180 for one of these bad boy.
Decided to wait until Jan and see what the lay of the land was then.
Any idea when this will hit mainstream, like the Diamond or is it just a Vodafone exclusive for now ?

Looks like you can get it on O2 as well...
http://www.mobiles.co.uk/o2-htc-touch-hd.html
And available on Orange...
That link is for the Touch HD not the Pro.
Pro has slide out keypad but most important of all, TV-OUT (Touch HD does not).

I had not realised this phone had tilt sensors in it. Makes for quite good "marble roll" type games!
