We've added a mobile phone price comparison search to Price Searching. It is still a WIP and is not generally available, but it IS working and you can find some stonking deals and free gifts on there.

If you have the time to give it a go then please do, and let us know what you think and what other search options you'd like to see.

We're aware that links to 'Buymobilephones.net' are currently not working, and we're investigating this issue.

Just a thought - is it possible to restrict the search by network?

There are one (or two) networks I would not want to use.

ColinP

Should be... That's one I'll add :)

EDIT - I've now added the option to filter by network :)

Looks very good, couple of suggestions though - can filters be added for network and monthly tariff preferred? and what about adding the three network?

The mobile phone manufacturer 'Network' should probably be 'Sim only' or similar?

Plus, is it possible to allow a search without having to specify a phone manufacturer? When I renew my contract, I generally don't care much what phone I get, I just want the cheapest deal that provides enough minutes/texts whatever. So I'd like a search where you needn't specify a phone manufacturer, just a network.

Try it now - I've removed the need for manufacturer to be selected.

That's great! It's bringing up contracts for about £9 per month with a free phone, which is usually around the bottom end of the market.

Are you excluding phones4u from this, in line with the forums policy?

ColinP

Phones4U are included, but they don't appear very often as their deals aren't that fantastic.

The best deal on there works out at around £6.11/month after cashback on an 18 month contract. That's with T-Mobile.

Yeah, just saw them! That's bargainous.

I'm not getting any deals at all coming up for Tesco or Virgin networks - is that a bug, or are there just none listed with any of the retailers?

EDIT: Virgin are now appearing, but nothing for Tesco still.

ColinP

I did a data refesh a few minutes ago so that might explain the Virgin data. It may be that Tesco only do PAYG - I'll check.

ColinP

Tesco are stored in the database, but it is only PAYG and there are currently no valid deals listed for them.

Works great - some good deals with cashback :)

ColinP

You can now search based on the handset features and total cost of the contract.

The very cheapest deals are usually on mobiles2yourdoor.co.uk - typically they carry some completely free deals (after cashback) and sub-£5 p.m. contracts.

ColinP

We've added the ability to search on the average monthly cost, number of texts and number of minutes :)

ColinP
03-10-2008, 14:27
mobiles2yourdoor.co.uk should be included in our results.

Edit: Yep, found a few deals listed from them - there aren't any less than £5/month though at the moment!

Colin,

Is there a way to choose an order by, i.e ascending on total price etc, or have I missed it?

Not yet. The current order is based on the average monthly cost. I will be adding ordering options soon though.

Bump for this, we are still after feedback here (and for the site as a whole) so would be good to get as many people testing as possible

We've added sorting options to the mobile page now :)

Bumping... Changed the thread title to attract the pervs :D

Has anyone got any more feedback?!

Will you be using it? If not, why not? What could convince you to make use of it?

I like it, but here's some feedback:

It would be better if you could select multiple manufacturers (from experience I'll only trust a Nokia or Sony Ericsson these days)

I'd have expected handset features to be in alphabetical order, especially as the first entries are numbers.

Multiple selects are the devil's work - non-techy folk don't understand them. There are nicer solutions out there.

Perhaps have design (Slide, Flip, Standard) could be a seperate box rather than in features.

Perhaps put the sections (Handset, Contract, Extras) in tabs switching the content below. Gives you a bit more space to play with.

On my laptop (1280 x 800) the results are just below the fold so it's not obvious it's actually done anything.

There's no obvious mention of cashback deals which people seem to either love or hate so is worth giving them the choice of.

Thanks for this feedback. It'll be very useful :) I'm going to be doing a lot more work on the mobile search soon :)
