View Full Version : Blackberry - Move SIM to different handset
My work supplied Blackberry is looking and feeling a little tired now.
I have been offered a brand new one from a friend to use.
Is it like a 'normal' phone in that all I have to just swap the SIM over (they are both Vodafone) or is it somehow configured (by my work) ?
Thanks

The new handset will not have your instant email on it till your Blackberry administrator changed the handset details on your account.

there is no need for the admin to change anything on your account, just use the phone switch on the blackberry desktop manager software and it will do all of the bits for you....
Thanks for the replies.
Can you elaborate on what you said
the phone switch on the blackberry desktop manager software and it will do all of the bits for you....
As I know nothing about these things.
Thanks

the software that the blackberry comes with once you load it on your computer it gives you the options to sync you contacts with outlook, create a backup, manage multi-media etc.... one of the options is a phone switch..
this is incase you updated your blackberry and didn't want to mess around inputting the settings again.
simply you select this option, plug in your old blackberry, takes about 10 min to gather all of the data, once this is done, you plug your new one in and hey presto

He said it is a works-supplied phone. What you suggest will not if the company is running BES.

yes it will as the phone switch registers the new pin with the old information...
Thanks for the replies. I shall have a go (and let you know).
Finally got round to trying this.
Ran the 'Switch' program. It appeared to work ok - no messages/errors etc.. But it hasnt copied my profiles over and basically hasn't worked.
