View Full Version : Heroes 3x02 - The Butterfly Effect *** SPOILERS ***
So Claire cannot feel things now, Syler seems to have removed her sense of pain!
So Mohinder was Spider-Man for a while  But his new condition is quite :gag: there.
Linderman is weird, a ghost/imagination/other? Not sure at the moment but thinking the latter. Nikki's new character I am sure will develop in the season too with her new "ice queen" power!
 at Bob being killed! Seems Noah is back in the picture now though. And Peter being trapped in the other guy's body, another power I am sure we will come accross soon?
And it was confirmed that Syler is a Petrelli!
 at the trailer! Looks very promising!

And the BBC website for season 3.

Hope this is better than season 2.
Is Mohinder going to be become The Lizard?
I'm confused, where did present time Peter go? How did Peter end up in the other guy? It seemed a bit weird and forced that the mother kept saying "my son" all of a sudden. You would think it would make more sense to travel back a day before the annoucement and have a chat rather than a few seconds before to shoot your own brother.
Maya is so :luv: It was nice to see Mohinder get some action.
Actors from other series were everywhere. I spotted John Sheridan, Marlow from the Wire and Weevil from Veronica Mars.
Also what's with the ice-girl who isn't Nikki? Really enjoying this so far.

Don't think much of this so far. S2 was a downward spiral, with a blip of (messy) goodness right at the end. This is just messy tat again, and derivative messy tat. Could Sylar in episode one been any more like Michael Myers when he was chasing the Pant Face about? Could Mohinder have been any more Brundlefly?
Not sure I'll bother with this much longer. And this is saying something for me when Tron's in it.

How did Peter end up in the other guy?
I guess 'future Peter' has gained more powers than 'present Peter'?
Maya is so :luv:
Agreed. Must watch that scene again, more carefully :n0rty:
Mohinder's storyline appears to be a complete ripoff of The Fly: Nutcase scientist uses himself as guinea pig for research, resulting in him getting super strength, gymnastic ability, and previously unseen levels of horniness, but it all goes Pete Tong when parts of his body start dropping off. He even looked like Jeff Goldblum (right down to what he was wearing). EDIT: I started typing all this before anephric posted, honest. :D
Did anyone spot Bubbles from The Wire? Andre Royo's name appeared as a guest star, but I didn't notice him.
I'd guess they distanced themselves as much as possible from season two with that opener. So much happened and was revealed that it's insane. I wonder if Peter has his powers while he's in Weevil's body. If so, he's just picked up a hell of a lot more just by being around the level 5 freaks. It'll be interesting to see who the other members of the 12 are, because TBH none of the ones we've seen could hold a candle to Sylar. It would appear that the guy Peter is in "generates destructive waves of sound" (according to HRG's laptop.
I'm just relieved Sylar didn't manage to kill Elle. :luv:

Yep, he even had Brundle's trousers on! I fully expected him to punch the door frame when he turned around too, except he scuttled up the wall.
Very lazy.
Thought the first two were great, truly back on form after last season. Lots to take in but you can see they've upped the special effects budgets. The speed girl and Nicki's effects were cinema quality.

Ando's power in the Future just rocked !
On the whole enjoyable two episodes, few bits of stupidity, but seemed far more action packed and intense than last season!

I agree fully with all of the above, but somehow I found it fantastically entertaining. It doesn't have one iota of originality anywhere & they'd get life-without-parole for the amount they've stolen from other shows/movies/comics, but it somehow, against all logic, is compelling viewing.

Completely completely bonkers, but an awful lot of fun.
I think The Wire has raised the bar so high that I just don't care if other shows make sense anymore so long as they are entertaining, which this absolutely was.

Hmm. The Greatest American Hero iced by someone who may or may not be Nikki Sanders, Ned Rierson dead by episode 2, Weevil and Ronnie Mars together again at last, Sylar brainraping Claire in the first ten minutes of the 3x01 after struggling for 2 seasons, Suresh turning into Seth Brundle (short of throwing up on donuts and his ears falling off) with a formula he discovers in the space of ten minutes, Sylar's previous family disregarded, Claire's mum pops up out of the blue...this is all very entertaining stuff but is nothing short of a reboot for the series. I suppose at least the writers acknowledged that something was wrong.
Its fun to watch (Ando and Hiro are back to being the best thing in it) and so many things are up in the air that while it'll be torture watching the writers lose track of all the threads and stumble through this season, it looks like being a bit of a laugh.

Well after watching the first two eps i felt like the previous two seasons hadn't happened.
it was a bit confusing to be honest. probably because season two was so boring i'd actually forgotten what happened and had no idea how/why/when certain characters appeared/arrived/turned up etc. what happened to that black chick nikki was rescuing, how did she escape and why isn't she nikki any more? i genuinely feel like i've missed a few episodes.
re: suresh/the fly. i'm sure everyone watching groaned as that particular story unfolded.
and how ******* fine is ali larter? jesus christ! i nearly passed out when she walked out of the bathroom in her wotnots:luv:
hope this improve as i genuinely loved the suspense and mystery of the first season, which has been missing since season one ended.

S1 she was alright but i couldn't take my eyes off her teeth. Are they real? Do they do botox in dentures now? They were mental, and did she have a bit of spinach between them during her conversation with Nathan in the hospital?
HD has it's downsides
On the whole i enjoyed the effects work more than the story. Ando's Ryu impression, that blue pyro dude and the weird Speed residue of that girl was all very well done. As someone mentioned, S2 was so boring and convoluted that I lost all interest in the plot last season, so i'm just going along for the ride.

Certainly it's super-powered his Voice Over to the point where now he's going all W.B.Yeats on our asses.

Hahaha yes. The voiceover at the end of 3x01 in particular was excruciating and seemingly never-ending.
Personally I preferred Stan Lee's VO at the beginning of each episode of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.
I wonder if his unearthly sweaty sheen has also been super-powered?
I predict by episode five, he'll be captured, tied-up & his captives will be bottling his sweat to sell on the black-market as a new narcotic for the kidz to shoot-up & get high on new superhero abilities & reenacting classic horror movie moments from the 90's. :D
I can't remember character names, but the actor of the bloke Peter is trapped inside, that was the guy from Veronica Mars right?

great episode although too many story strands. Can see that claire is going to end up with sylar given she keeps being refused help.
I think the confusing part is when it says Voice of Shenkar or something, I don't know who that is or what voice he is doing. The only thing I can think of is the person callnig aaaaahoooaaaah in the music.

Seeing Marlow from The Wire was a bit of a mark out moment, but to see Bubbles in that picture above is going to be joining is even better!
Other than that, I wasn't really grabbed by anything in it. The whole Peter going back and shooting his brother, but not so bad as to kill him is right up there with stupid plot points. And Hiro is just annoying now.

Yes, Shenkar is the bloke doing all the wailing, and Suresh does the voice over.
I don't think the villains look bad ass enough. They just look more like thugs than arch criminals. These guys are supposed to be worse than Sylar and yet they don't appear so. Especially as they seem to be a group, again they seem more like a group of thugs. So far the impression I have got is that all they can do is cause random anarchy rather than anything apocalyptic.

I liked the way that they couldn't even be bothered to come up with a decent ripoff of Magneto, so they made him German too. Bekoss then he can spek wiv unt terribell akcent! Just like the ones you used to know.
You used to get a build-up throughout an episode with a sudden cliff-hanger or exciting finale in the last few minutes but the first two episodes of the new season seemd to consist of nothing but finales with no build-up. And for a show with so many characters the last thing we needed was the TWELVE new characters introduced in episode 2.

Veronica Mars reunion! :)
A very messy but enjoyable couple of opening episodes. I'm completely confused because I can't remember a thing that happened in season 2 and its been so long that I can barely even remember who has what power.
I think the writers have done the impossible and actually turned Suresh into an even more annoying character. Ali Larter looked hideous with all that makeup and the big square mouth.
Thank God the flying schoolboy didn't appear.

When Suresh started on about everbody getting different powers I imagined some characters from the 4400 about to turn up.
I took it differently. To me it looked like they were going to start ripping off the 4400.
The second coming? Thats straight out of the 4400 with Jordan Collier coming back from the dead.
Everyone having powers? Promison.
Side affects with Suresh? 50/50 chance of promison killing you.
Such a shame 4400 was axed. It was a great show for the most part.

Well, it's ripping off everything it can. And the villains are a real bunch of X-Men rip offs, but at least the first two episodes have been entertaining, unlike season 2.
so why does future peter have a scar?
We haven't seen why that happens yet! Though it's clearly happened in at least two timelines, so he probably can't avoid it.
i thought the scar came if clare died, because he then no longer has the heal ability, however that did not happen.... save the cheer leader and all that...
Maybe he gets scarred as Jesse, then the scar stays when he comes out of him. Maybe he gets scarred when the Haitian is around. There are loads of possibilities.
I wish they'd just kill Suresh. What an annoying character he is, made worse that he's played by a terrible actor.

I don't like the new series yet, it's all happening at too fast a pace, I miss all the buildup and proper cliffhangers of the first season, not this torrent of madness!

Hiro's the only character I really like. I enjoyed the Nathan/Peter dynamic in S1, and to a certain extent in S2, but I couldn't really care less about them now.
I still like Sark, mind.
I hope there are some Veronica/Weevil in-jokes, surely they can give Sherrif Lamb a part too.

I thought he kept it as a memento? It's also a handy plot device so you know which Peter is which.

well tell her to savour every episode, as it's all downhill after that.
I have sterted re-watching it with her from Episode 16 of Season 1 to make sure she catches up before Season 3 starts on the BBC. :D
Just watched episodes 1 & 2 back to back - it was hard work.
It's on borrowed time for me now, how did the heights of series one become the terrible lows of the seasons two and three. I was hoping for an improvement in this latest volume, but it's actually worse than S2 but for different reasons.
It requires an incredible amount of suspension of disbelief. All the drama has gone for me, due to the deux ex machina nature of the writing.
At the moment it is an effective rerun of series ones plot.
Sylar chasing people down for powers - check
Hiro trying to save the world from exploding by finding a sword--I mean a piece of paper - check
Clare discovering her powers - check
Time travel - check
Some bloke paiting the future - check
Parkman being useless - check
Not impressed at all so far :(

Plot-device-tastic! :D
Just thought of that a few secs before I read these posts!
Obviously the world being destroyed isn't overly important when Hiro's moral stance is involved aka the above mentioned Plot-device-tastic!
Wonder what caused the devastation? Did initially think "Cloverfield" as everything else under the sun is being incorporated.
Shame about Sylar's comments to Claire. Was hoping she would be killed off quite horrifically as she is the worst character in the show - far worse than Mr IQ himself, Surinder.

I dont think claire would ever be killed off given she is a main part of heroes.
One of the biggest problems is that everyone is safe in this show, there's no such thing as aconvincing death. The other problem is that Mohinder is an arse.

Come on, Nikki was way worse and they found a way to keep her in the show...by making her another character. I'm sure it'll all be explained away when the writers find a reason, any reason, to justify it.
Still, you have to admire a show that steadfastly refuses to improve as it goes on. It was always badly written, but at least the plot developed nicely with few lulls (Talking Season 1 here). Now though it's just...bad? Are they really re-hashing season 1 already?

Wouldnt it create a paradox anyway. By killing nathan he changes the future which means he never comes back and kills nathan, thereby never changing the future which causes him to come back and so on ....

I have to say I'm not impressed by this new season. It seems to have taken the same tack as the previous season by making the viewer feel like they've missed a couple of episodes in the interim.
It would appear that it's disappearing up it's own bum. I'll persevere for a few more eps, but I expect this will go the way of Prison Break and drop off my viewing list.
I'm still enjoying it. I do feel you could have a good show with just Hiro & Ando versus villain-of-the-week though...
I turned off halfway through episode 2...just couldn't be bothered with it
I'm still enjoying it. I do feel you could have a good show with just Hiro & Ando versus villain-of-the-week though...
Me too. Not the greatest show in the world, but entertaining enough.
I'm hoping most of the complainers give up in the course of the next few episodes. The season two thread(s) were a complete whine-fest, and it'll be a shame if this season is the same old story. If you don't like it then don't watch it!*
*Fair enough if you quite enjoy it, but there's a couple of things that frustrate you, but a lot of posts seem to just slag it off.
There's an awful lot going on now, can't see how they can stop this getting really confusing and difficult to keep up with.
They could quite easily drop half a dozen of these; my suggestions for the chop - Parkman, Nikki, Suresh, Maya, "burning hand mom" and Lindeman.
I sincerely hope they don't bring any others back - "gadget freak kid" and "learn from the TV" sulky teenager girl and "locate anyone with a map" brat; there's already way too many to keep up with.
Also, considering all the powers Sylar has he does seem to be stopped quite easily.
And finally, what's with African painting guy? Is he another 'paint the future' type?
And finally, what's with African painting guy? Is he another 'paint the future' type?
Look on the bright side, though: he could have been Turtle Man.
Good post. I take the view thtat the suits have come back from season one focus groups and said "They liked Peter with Scar, Hiro looking for something in the US and Sylar eating Claire's brain. Kring and his gand have got to work with that and their ow ideas. Hope the ratings keep up !
Having watched both episodes, I really enjoyed them both of them, although the Suresh storyline was just plain lazy. I laughed at Parkman talking to the turtle. Ali Larter does not look very appealing in HD I noticed all the make up she was wearing and her teeth looked wrong. Claire slowly looking to turn evil is very anakin-y. Id like to see the dirty dozen causing more destruction than Sylar Petrelli. Bring on Ep3
I loved the opening, although it was frenetic and messy. And if you're going to go for a cast the size of The Wire, why not grab a couple of actors from it too?
My theory on "Niki" (possibly already mentioned):She's probably the real Jessica.
As far as Niki knows, Jessica died when they were younger -- and the supposed death affected Niki by creating an alternate personality in her. But that wasn't the real Jessica, and if she didn't die after all, she'd look like Niki now and be wandering around with a power.
Nicky Theory ^ Ive not heard that before but I must admit I could see that happen.
