I've just looked at the recent two episodes of this new show on Sky +, and it seems to me that Martin Shaw has ever so slightly lost the plot. It's not as if he ever really gets into the role: he's Martin Shaw playing George Gently, and the accent he uses (which is neither London nor northern, but a curious indeterminate hybrid) is conspicuous in its incongruity. I am increasingly getting into the Midsomer Murders/Inspector Lynley/Inspector Morse-style genre (and two of the aforenamed feature actors who found fame playing earlier detectives, and who made a successful transition). Shaw doesn't seem to me to pull off the same trick here.

Yeah, tried this, liked Morse etc but couldn't get into Martin Shaw, it was non-descript, boring even, the character had no appeal.

How many episodes of this were there?
My grandfather thinks it just disappeared after a couple of episodes and that Wimbledon messed it up or something?
Can anyone shed any light as I have no idea what he's on about!

Is epguides (http://epguides.com/GeorgeGently/) correct? Just a pilot and 2 episodes?
