I just bought With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly, but I was pretty underwhelmed. I loved Ara Batur and want to find an earlier album more in this style...any suggestions? :)

Ágætis byrjun is IMO their best album.

Ágætis byrjun is IMO their best album.

Would probably agree with that.

And what would be their second best?

Ágætis byrjun is my favourite too, with Takk second.
() is probably for hardcore Ros fans only and Von contains a few good songs amongst a lot of ambient noodling.

Dunno. TBH, I find all of their albums are best in small doses. It's not often I'll listen to an SR album all the way through in a sitting.

I would rate Hvarf-Heim as the second best. Can be listened in one sitting, stripped back versions of some of their best songs. And you might as well watch Heima to go with it. One of the best music DVDs out there, amazing art.

() is currently my favourite album of theirs followed very closely by Ágætis byrjun. That has changed many times over the last few years though and is mainly down to what mood I'm in. I love the new album but it's too early to say whether it will take over from Takk as my third favourite. Hvarf-Heim is worth a listen as it contains some great new versions of their earlier songs. Von though, is a very hard listen imo and I'd only recommend it to those who are really interested in the bands roots. It has it's moments but it's just a little bit too experimental in places for my liking.

Edit,
I also agree with KeyserSoze, get yourself a copy of the Heima dvd. Simply stunning.

Ára Bátur is my favourite song of their new album by far.

Ignore Von and Von Brigði imo.

Takk is my favourite, but followed closely by Ágætis byrjun, but the difference is like the difference between Butter and I can't Believe It's Not Butter.... (n.b. I don't like butter) () I can't actually listen too ALL of the time, need to be in some weird mood to listen to it..

Hvarf is better than Heim, if only because of the Studio recording of the re-done Hafsól !

I agree with that part of what you're saying - () is musically by far the best album. Takk is nice but it doesn't half get boring after a few listens.

Is Von due to be reissued as I cannot seem to find it to buy new from the few Online stores I have looked at. I have just ordered the other full albums but cannot find Von, and it's annoying me!

I noticed that "heavyweight" vinyl by all accounts....£25:nuts:

Wish they would also chuck out Von on CD...looks like it has been deleted!
