I have a Toshiba 37AV505D TV linked to an upscaling Samsung F1080 DVD player by a quality HDMI cable. I have a wide mixture of DVDs (all legitimate R1 & R2 releases) of classic and modern films; some of the discs are non-anamorphic. Although the DVD player is capable of putting out upto 1080p signals, the TV can accept a max of 720p in the Progressive mode but can go upto 1080i interlacing.

My question is, bearing in mind the various types of DVDs I watch, is it best to:

1. Leave the HDMI setting on Auto OR

2. Set it to 720p (as I have done) OR

3. Set it to 1080i OR

4. None of the above (if so, please advice what to do).

Please help me with this. :help::help::help::help:

Try your DVD player set to 576P/480i and your TV at 1080i

then try your DVD player at 1080P and your TV at 1080i and see what you prefer.

then try your DVD player at 1080P and your TV at 1080i and see what you prefer. I thought the HDMI setting can only be altered at the sending - ie the DVD player - end? If I try to set the Samsung DVD Player to 1080p, the on-screen display menu for the DVD player warns "This TV does not support 1080p"

Ah sorry, set it to 1080i then. It's all down to personal preference really. There is no definitive answer.
