‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ new single out September 29th
‘Dig Out Your Soul’ new album out October 6th
Oasis are set to return later this year with a new single and their seventh studio album. The single,‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ is released on September 29th and the album, ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ follows in October; it is the first new Oasis music since last year’s ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’, taken from the on the road film of the same name. ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ sees Dave Sardy return to the producer’s chair following his work on their 2005 album, ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’. Recorded at Abbey Road and mixed in Los Angeles, all four members once again contribute tracks, but the recording marks a new approach for the band as described by the band’s principle songwriter, Noel:
“I wanted to write music that had a groove; not songs that followed that traditional pattern of verse, chorus and middle eight. I wanted a sound that was more hypnotic; more driving. Songs that would draw you in, in a different way. Songs that you would maybe have to connect to - to feel.”
The lead single is still unmistakably Oasis, a Noel penned song with Liam’s immediately familiar voice to the fore underlining their distinctive brand of finger in the socket rock ’n’ roll.
‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ may well represent the most recognisable Oasis song on the album but, again, the new approach on ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ was present on this lead track as Noel explains:
“If ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ sounds instant and compelling to you, it’s because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast. ‘The Shock of The Lightning’ basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best.”
‘Dig Out Your Soul’ will be the first album released on the band’s own Big Brother label worldwide.

Only took them 7 albums to try something new then...

As I said with Don't Believe The Truth, the titles sound horribly hackneyed and trite, BUT as DBTT wasn't a bad album at all then hopefully the variety found on that will also be found on the new album.

Sounds like another Chemical Brothers song featuring Noel Gallagher which isn't a bad thing tbh.

The song that got played on the Edge was just this song, and not the first single. I do like it, but the mix is horrible. Noel's voice is too far down in it.
It does make me curious as to what the original version sounds like though.

New album tracklisting
As previously announced, the band are set to return later this year with their new album, released independently by their own label Big Brother Recordings. There is a worldwide release date of October 6*.

Just heard 'Falling Down'. Obviously released as a promo to create some buzz.
I'm loving it...would be great if this version is on the album. I'm all for a slightly new direction for my favourite band.

That sleeve is pants!
The cover looks like a 1970's jazz album.
I like it.
Though Oasis haven't interested me for about 10 years now.
Hmm, so Stop the Clocks and I wanna live in a dream (In my record machine) aren't on the album?
B-Sides mebbe?
Stop the Clocks is a hidden bonus track.
I hope I Wanna Live in my Dream Record Machine Whatever makes a b-side.
Whatever happened to Can You See It Now -- one of the best throwaway songs from their last session!

It's a great tune. Far as I know it was an official album track on the Japanese release of 'Dont Believe The Truth'. I imagine we'll see it as a B-Side some time.

They also encouraged fans to keep checking their official website for 'the soon-to-be-announced UK tour dates...'
The Mail On Sunday, however, have reported that the Manchester band are set to play the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre on Sunday November 2nd, followed by Glasgow's SECC on the 4th and 5th. Tickets will allegedly go on sale on Wednesday 20th August.
Without any official confirmation of the dates, fans are encouraged to wait until the tour is formally announced.

I simply cannot wait for the return of Oasis, its about time a band with some ******* attitude returned, Noel and Liam are always good value for entertainment and the new stuff is promising from what ive heard/read about it.
Bring it on!!!
Album track 'Falling Down' has leaked and sounds superb (this is not the C Bros remix, but the actual album track)
I thought the Chemical Bros. remix was superb but the actual song is outstanding. Simple piano melody and a cracking drum rhythm work well with Noel's vocals. Some great production going on in this song and my hopes for the album have risen through the roof.

Posting this from the bus home!
We arrived, they bussed us to the location, gave us wristbands, put our phones into named envelopes, and gave us three drinks tokens and ear plugs.
Then we arrive in the studio, a surprise, they played the entire dig out your soul album to warm up! SO heavy and, moody is the word??
Lots of oasis family there. Sara, Nicole, Paul G, Marcus, Phil etc. And gene g!
Oasis come on straight after, rock and roll star! Here's what I remember of the setlist:
Rock and roll star
Lyla
Shock of the lightning
Cigs and alcohol
Ain't got nothing
My big mouth
Slide away
Falling down
Importance of idle
Don't look back (slow and acoustic)
Supersonic
Champagne supernova
Liam's new one about Lennon
The masterplan
I am the walrus to finish
Probably more but I can't remember!
Set ended with liam walking through the crowd- prolly 100 people- and kissing Nicole by the bar.
Liam on great form, good voice!
On the bus driving home!
I had a quick chat to Marcus Russell, I asked him if they'd do another knebworth he said massive shows next year but not another knebworth as too big for everyone concerned!!

Posted on messageboard today:
OASIS will open their mammoth world tour in Manchester’s rival city. The band are to play the first night of their huge tour in Liverpool’s new Echo Arena on October 7. A source revealed: “They are proud of their roots, but they dig Liverpool too and thought they would kick it off there.” Some fans will be surprised to hear NOEL and LIAM GALLAGHER have picked Liverpool to launch their record-breaking stint on the road. But the band are fans of the city’s culture and music. It’s the home of THE BEATLES after all. Oasis are mates with THE CORAL and new drummer CHRIS SHARROCK used to play with THE LA’S. Man U misery GARY NEVILLE won’t be happy. But that’s good news. The tour will be a marathon one going on for nearly 18 months — as revealed in Bizarre last week. After kicking off in Liverpool the day after the release of new album Dig Out Your Soul, the tour goes to Sheffield, Birmingham, London and Bournemouth. It will then head to Cardiff, Belfast and Aberdeen before ending its first leg in Glasgow on November 5. ON yer marks...! Tickets for all shows go on sale at 9am on Wednesday, August 20 on oasisinet.com or the Oasis 24-hour ticketline 0844 412 4638. The Sun

Those Liverpool tickets will be like gold dust.
Heard the new single this monring - liked it, not amazing, but strong.
Really gutted that I am on holiday for the Wembley gig - thats two tours missed in a row now, dammit.
Regarding the boxed set of the album (pre-order on Oasis site at £50) - am I right in saying that, music wise, you would only be getting 3 extra new songs (this excludes remixes and the previously available Lord Dont Slow Me Down) ? Was thinking of buying it, listening to the new tracks then put it on Ebay as I cant see how I can get to hear them otherwise ?

Did anyone listen to Moyles? Interview was hysterical, at least Noel can put a spin on the tired line of "this album is.......the latest one we've done" ;)
Falling Down is amazing stuff, The Shock of the Lightning is pretty groovy but really want to hear some of the other stuff off the album (especially the track that features horses' hooves......what's that all about?)
Thought Noel battered Moyles, made him look totally out of his depth. When Noel is on Russell Brand's R2 show the banter they have is great but Moyles just didn't know how to handle Noel at all - brilliant stuff

Noel went on to the Shaun Kevney show on 6music straight after Moyles where he told an ace story about Maroon 5. Slagged off Keane and complely ripped George Lamb apart. So well done Noel.
He should really give up music and become a DJ.

Just look for interviews when he was doing promo work for the last album and I'm sure it'll pop up as well.
As you say it's not album-related, not sure I've heard him say that before (about Oasis stuff) as it's usually the tired line of "it's best we've done since Morning Glory". Just don't want to hear more Brit-pop stuff for the umpteenth time. If DBTT had've been handled by Death in Vegas I think that would have made for a much better album. Stuff like Idler's Dream, Mucky Fingers and Importance of Being Idle are pretty decent.
Regarding the live stuff, god almighty bring in some different tunes! I note that they played My Big Mouth at the recent album preview to a number of fans. They should dig out more stuff they don't usually play (like Round Our Way or even Hindu Times).
Can't wait to hear some of the new stuff. Early fan reviews figure it's like a heavier SOTSOG. Mmmm....we shall see!

Those songs weren't actually written then. Noel has said that Album was scrapped because he felt the songs he wrote just didn't work at all, and they were only given very limited time to work with Div. I'm sure some songs were re-recorded with Dave Sardy but on the whole it was a different Album.

I managed to get 4 standing although I'm going to wait until I receive my confirmation email before I actually believe it. See Tickets always manage to screw things up for me.
Same here. I've gone through so many emotions this morning from excitement through to sadness and anger, then back to happiness and now nervous just until that email comes through!

Got nothing, so if anyone has anything spare for Liverpool at face value, let me know.
Got 4 standing for Brum (14th) but wanted 4 standing for Sheffield (11th)
anyone want to swap?
What an utter disgrace, that true fans cant even get legitimate tickets. And they wonder why there are so many websites that con people on fakes etc
Appaling but not surprising.
I am amazed that a band like Oasis couldn't even be bothered to sort out a pre-sale.
Kaiser Chiefs always seem to manage to do that as their pre-sales yesterday proved. OK touts will have got a bunch of the tickets as well but at least genuine fnas had a decent opportunity to get tickets.

I'm not often defeated in my quest for tickets, so was surprised not to get any today, but when the only agency was See and the server couldn't stay up and I had to go into training, it's not a huge surprise. Furthest I got was typing my card details in, but evidently the order didn't go through. Mate of mine did get 1 top price for Liverpool.
Bet Ebay's swarming with them. Yup, 51 sets for Liverpool, some up to £200 a pair. FFS.

That would be great. I actually only need one but would be great if you do have one spare! Can't really afford to be paying silly money on Ebay! My colleague is now trying to get a second standing for Sheffield to match with mine that I can't use, and they're a bloody fortune from Ticketmaster's "partner" tout site. :|

Didn't even get a chance :(
Never mind. I have a feeling they'll be a huge stadium tour next year.
On the plus side, TSOTL is getting some good airplay in the U.S (shock!), it's got a mini positive write-up preview (the album) on Billboard's website, and TSOTL and Falling Down are appearing on a few itunes charts. So all good it seems.

I really hope that's true, but even if it was, we'd all be stuck exactly where we are today. The distribution for large demand gigs seems to be getting more and more out of control as time goes on, with fans being made to pay an insane amount of money over face value. Why can't they introduce a syustem where you name each ticket when you buy. Then can only get access on the door with photo ID ? it woudl cut out a lot of the c**p I've seen today for sure. I'm now going to be missing Oasis's past two tours because of this. I just can't afford what people are asking on certain websites. I was happy with £38 ! >:(

With patience and persistence, you'll get a ticket for face value, just hold your nerve and don't start bidding on auctions. There's going to be people who exceeded their allocation, and those tickets will get put on sale over the coming days. Then there will be the usual promoter holds etc... if you check reguarly and keep checking the various relevant message boards, I'd be surprised if you don't land a ticket. Quite often they go on sale as late as the day of the show or before as an anti-touting measure.

Or get rid of Net sales all together and go back to the old venue only sales.
Ah the good old days back in '97 camping out over night outside the NIA to get tickets the next morning, because you could never ever get through on the phones.
It was a good crack though. We got there about 5pm, and the queue was already about one third of a way up the second side of the arena. Was all the way around and down the steps a bit by the time they went on sale.

Oasis do have the largest amount of idiots i've ever seen at a gig.
been to see Oasis 7 times I think, and the last two have by far been the worst for idiots. Manchester Cricket ground in about 2002 and Cardiff in 2005, but both were long gigs with 4/5 support bands so the idiots were drinking for a long time. But with just one support band, the crowds have been better.
I've gotta say, I love the single. It might even be the best thing I think they've done.

I liked Noel's assesment of the single (Half jokingly) saying that "Its the same as every first single we've released from a new album but with different words". If it's the case they should've just released it as a single/download only.
Oasis do have the largest amount of idiots i've ever seen at a gig.
I seen Oasis live about 8 times during the late nineties and it was only the last couple of gigs I went to which seemed to attract the yob element. The last Oasis gig I went to was in Lansdown Road and it was hell. I got spat on twice and I almost punched some gobby, chav girl and she kept standing on me. It was chav central in there.
I have no interest in seeing them now as they seem to be on the chavscum radar for the one gig to go to.

Just my opinion, dude. I always thought Don't Look Back In Anger was one of their worst singles, even back when you could have considered me a fan. There's just something horribly obvious and schmaltzy about it. It's hard to deny that Liam has a decent rock voice - he just needs some decent material to apply it to.
I would prefer if Noel sung more songs...Or an acoustic album

Here's the proper version of 'Falling Down'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPad-nZqFmw
Thoughts on the new album: (heard The Shock of the Lightning, Falling Down, live versions of To Be Where There's Life, Ain't Got Nothing, 30-40 second clips of all other new songs).
Good solid stuff......what SOTSOG should have been I think. Weakest tracks (for me) are Ain't Got Nothin and The Shock of the Lightning (good single but it's nothing special). Clips of new songs sound promising. Favourites are Bag It Up, The Turning, I'm Outta Time, Soldier On and - of course - To Be Where There's Life. Grooooovy stuff.
Nice to see something different, would've preferred to have seen this earlier tho (and not put up with so-so efforts).
Thoughts on new tracks (after a few listens):
Bag it Up - sounds a bit like Sgt Peppers, has some bizarre lyrics ("somone tell me I'm dreaming, the freaks are rising up through the floor".....there's also a "heebie-jeebies" line--seriously!), pretty damn good. Dark and heavy, quite raw too. Like it a lot.
The Turning - down and dirty ("shake your reptile"?!), sounds like the music that would go along with a car/jeans telly ad, good groove.
Waiting for the Rapture - Noel falsetto, pounding, pretty un-Oasisy, like a marching band anthem.
I'm Outta Time - very very catchy. Much better than the typical "ballad for big boys". Has some great vocals (it's Lenon....no it's not, it's Liam--little rascal!) Very commercial sounding, sounds a lot better after a few listens. The second single.
Get Off your High Horse Lady - dreamy, not too keen to begin with but some thoughtful piano saves it
To Be Where There's Life - really really like this one, dreamy, groooooovy, very nice (have heard the live version tho), really nice bass line, one of the best songs on the album
Ain't Got Nothing - same as the demo/live version, should've been a B-side, does sound more instant than the others tho, quite catchy.
The Nature of Reality - Not sure what to make of it to be honest. Need to hear the full version I think.
Solider On - really grown on me after a few listens, has a vibe of Travis' Why Does It Always Rain On Me (sort of) to it....simple Liam that's all you can ask for!
I Believe in All - sounds a bit like the Monkees-lite -- why the hell didn't this make the album?!
Would be nice if Stop the Clocks and I Wanna Live in a Dream in My Record Machine make b-sides.
Falling Down should be their Xmas single. Roll on October!

After listening to that 8min preview, I think the album is going to be like the last with just 3 or 4 decent songs. Gem/Andys songs again doing nothing for me.
Funnily enough the song most people seem to be excited is one penned by Liam (I'm Outta Time), which I quite like myself. Bit better than Little James. ;)
Well then what do you think?
Bag it up sounds superb!!

the full albums leaked it's guts onto the internet.
Meh...6/10 stuff.
On first listen i'm impressed. Liam's voice certainly sounds better than the past 3 albums. Few good Rock n Roll tunes in there. 8.5/10 for me on 1st listen
Very good stuff. In fact, it's the only album since Morning Glory I could probably listen to all the way through (even the filler of Get off Your High Horse, The Nature of Reality and Solider On is passable).
Favourite track has to be The Turning--great tune.
Love the chorus to Bag it Up.
I'm Outta Time - sounds like the music that would go on a banking/savings advert, but I do like it a lot.
Falling Down - class Noel tune, one of the best songs of the last decade for Oasis.
To Be Where There's Life - very funky, very groovy
Wating for the Rapture - marching band funk, pretty good stuff
Ain't Got Nothing - B-side but still catchy with Liam's nursery rhyme meanderings
Would love it if they came up with some good B-sides too (I Believe in All sounds pretty good from the clip)
And it's probably just me but there's *a part* of I'm Outta Time and Falling Down that wouldn't look out of place on a Bond soundtrack......

I reckon Don't Believe the Truth was a decent return-to-form, the only problem is (bar a few songs) it was pretty much the same old stuff.
I'd say the new record does have its conventional sounds but they're in the minority and the "inspiration/rip off" base is more broadly spread. I can't really see any sing-a-longs (aside from, possibly, I'm Outta Time).
The Turning really is something though. Love that.

There's some good stuff on this but nothing amazing apart from a couple of tracks really. Don't get me wrong, I think its a decent record, but its almost just DBTT part two. I certainly don't get how they thought this was a new direction, exploring new sounds etc. But then maybe that's how they want to continue, just carry on what they do best, is there anything wrong with that? I reckon that's all the majority of their fans want them to do I guess.

Well, I won't be able to go to the rescheduled gig assuming it's in the next couple of weeks, due to circumstances beyond my control, and apparently from the first week of October the concert site at Eden becomes a skating rink, so time's against them.
Gutted, was really looking forward to seeing em live.

Skating starts 3rd November - they start putting the rink down 10 days before normally - so if they dont reschedule before the 25th then it wont happen until April / May - If you havent been to Eden before to see a band its worth the wait though - top venue IMO

The more I listen to this, the more its just another Oasis album. There's a couple of very good songs on it, quite a few good ones and the rest is fairly average. All of them are very Oasisy songs in terms of lyrics and the song structure, so there's a lot of catchy songs you'll get stuck in your head!
Can the charge of this being oasisy really be that surprising, it's Oasis? I've only given it a quick spurt but it sounds pretty good so far. I'm not sure what people are expecting really.

I've already cancelled - I won't be able to go within the the next 6 weeks due to other commitments, and it'll either be within that date or as you say next year.
As said, I hope the Canadian **** is made to realise how selfish he's been.

I know, but from the way they were talking up the album recently it was going to be a new direction and sound like nothing else they'd done before. But then I know they've said that before and it never transpired, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

Listened to this a few times today, love it, definately a return to form imo, only track I cant get on with is the 2nd to last, but its for me the best collection of songs they have put together since Be Here Now and it sounds ten times better than that album did.
Very very impressed, looking forward to seeing how it translates to live.
Would that be The Nature of Reality?
In the words of Alan Partridge, "Sorry, that was just a noise."
Apart from that, really like the rest of the album (the filler of Solider On, Ain't Got Nothing and High Horse isn't that bad).
Oasis headline the BBC Electric Proms 2008
The BBC Electric Proms today announced Britain's greatest rock n roll band Oasis as the final headliner to complete this year's festival bill. Oasis are set to treat music fans to a very special performance at the festival and will be accompanied by the Crouch End Festival Chorus. Expect classic Oasis anthems and tracks from their highly anticipated latest album Dig Your Own Soul.
Am up for this one, support from Glasvegas

Yep, it is a bit pants, but it may grow on me. "The Turning" is easily the best song they have written in absolutely ages and is my favourite on the album, it has such a swagger about it, definately will sound ace live!
Anyone manage to get tickets ? I *think* I did although waiting for confirmation (gulp)

I got the chance to fill the form in and submit. Hopefully that's enough? The seetickets site didnt seem to be slow, so fingers crossed...
same here... I filled everything in and seemed to be *too* easy. Once it completed I went back to the main page which said sold out. So here's hoping

Got to collect them from the roundhouse, surely we can claim the postage back?
How I'd love to see them at the Roundhouse, but sadly I just cant afford what is being asked on Ebay :(

Good point, £4.80 postage when there is no postage. Worth a pint in the venue surely?

The Jagz Kooner remix of TSOTL is pretty sweet.

Indeed. Actually, I'd say all the remixes (except the Chemical Brothers' mix) on the bonus disc are superior to the originals. 'To Be Where There's Life' in particular sounds excellent and much closer to how the band are playing it live.
I have mixed feelings of this album. There is plenty good stuff to be found for sure ('Falling Down' being the stand-out), but some lazy lyrics and bland production marr proceedings a bit too much. A shame things never worked out between the band and Death In Vegas, but I guess Noel loves Dave Sardy's sound so that's what we're stuck with.
Album only £6.93 in Tesco today, good price.
Does anyone know how I can get the three extra tracks on the bonus CD ? I simply cant afford to buy the £80 box set, but am more than happy to pay for the songs I want. Are they on itunes ?

Dont suppose Tesco's stock the CD/DVD do they ? If I can get that for a tenner I'm in

Storming gig at the NIA tonight. Nearly as good as their performances there back in 1997 and 2001.
Agreed... they were superb!!!

i like Oasis. always have. even in their headier days (Be Here Now). to me, this is the third of three similar consecutive albums. lead-off singles The Hindu Times, Lyla, and Shock Of The Lightning are prime examples. they're interchangeable with each other - still great, though.
They've announced a gig in Slane next year (June 09). Cracking stuff!

They won't play Glastonbury after the arse they made of it last time. (They might play that big European festival that weekend though.)
Proberly just making sure that there's another gig goers about to fill the stadiums.

That's what I thought, but the tour stops so far have been predictable and disappointing.
I thought Liam's voice had completely gone a year or two back, now he seems to be right back on form.
