View Full Version : [GPS] Is this Garmin 255W any good?
Garmin Nuvi 255W (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=8&url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00151WAM4/thedvdforums-21)
Resisted one for ages as I normally like to use the position of the sun and a natural sense of direction, but watching QVC this morning and it looks pretty good.
Any other alternatives? Can I easily load world maps onto it?

Tom Tom would be best. perhaps the 520 if you dont need Europe maps. Else get the 720 which would have the Europe maps

Other half has the 200w and the times I've used it -it has been good- but I posted earlier and the 520 was recommended- Can the 520 be upgraded with european maps at alater date?

For the TomTom GO 520 yes you can add new maps using a PC and Tomtom home software.
I think it has 512MB of internal memory and can also take SD cards so you could have maps on SD cards as well.
Any thoughts on the new TomTom XL?
Anybody actually used one of these AND a tomtom?
I'm considering replacing my Garmin I3 - its a nice little unit, but suffers badly when I want to route around traffic (Pushes me round the houses then back onto the next junction on the motorway, not what you want when there are 2+ junctions closed...) - all of the new ones around the £150 band have TMC.
Don't want or need big screens or euro maps, only thing that bugs me on the garmin is its a pain in the ass to put the addresses in - would be extra happy with a qwerty keyboard.

The new 2x5 series garmins have some changes to the keyboard layouts etc, can't remember all the details but I noticed when playing with one the other day. Anything in the newer TT or Garmin range is an improvement on the I3 address input :)
