Yep, just heard on the radio he'll be embarking on a US tour, soon to be followed by a European tour this summer.

Fingers crossed it's more than a couple of dates in London...

My wife will love this (joke). I've been listening to Blood Money continually for the last few weeks

Oh this is awesome news.....hope for more details soon. Was at the Hammersmith gig a couple of years ago and it was one of the greatest gig experiences of my life....And that was even taking into account the fact that i was stuck right at the back of the circle.

Anyone heard any more details on this?

Quick check shows that my upper estimate of £75 a ticket back in 2004 was a bout right so odds on it really being £100 and given it sold out in 30 minutes maybe an intimate venue such as the O2

I fear you might be right on the price, however i doubt it'll be an arena show - Waits is very picky about what venues he plays and has said numerous times that he'll only play in visually suitable theatrical venues. My guess is Hammersmith again but possible a couple more nights like Neil Young's just done.

this still hasn't been 100% confirmed has it?

its a rumour based on a rumour that others have taken as fact. would love to see it confirmed.

in 2004, I rang for hours and hours but no joy. silly prices from ebay and the touts after that.

went to Amsterdam 2-3 months later and my hotel was right next to the (Carre?) theatre he played... tickets were available on the night fairly cheaply I was told....

I can still feel the pain now. ;)

Tom Waits would never play the O2.

never!

I went to one of those shows and stayed in that hotel. It's a beautiful theatre but you couldn't get tickets on the night. People were literally begging with fistfuls of Euros! I never saw anybody part with a ticket.

I must say that I was at the Hammersmith gig in 2004...had quite a good seat as well. Queues and queues of people outside, desperate. Supposedly loads of celebs in attendence, but the only person I saw was Beth Orton.
All I did to get a ticket that day was get up for nine the morning they went on sale, and ring up, eventually getting through. Cost me £70-odd quid, though. Worth it, however! (Though I wished I had gotten Real Gone before going, as loads of the songs were off that)

I was at that Hammersmith gig too, I remember tickets being touted for over £300 for that one!
I saw Tim Burton and Johnny Depp while i was looking (i was near the front of the circle, so could have a good oggle downstairs)
Was an amazing gig, one of the best i've ever been too

will desperately try to get tickets again.

He is quite quite mad. But somewhat amusing.
Though all we know now is he will play spain (madrid ?) and dublin and some points in between and I'm still betting on £100 tickets after booking fees

he looks off his head in that press conference.

be nice if he did play manchester though.. (or even liverpool if I was being really lazy!).

if I have to get to dublin then so be it.

06-05-2008, 19:22
if he plays a UK date (or depending on where else he plays and how accessible it is from aberdeen) i will be trying my hardest to get tickets - he's one of the very few of my musical idols left alive

I've just noticed I misbooked my holidays in the US so I'll fly in to Knoxville 3 days after he's gone. Bummerama.

To be honest, £100 is a bargain to see a legend like him in an intimate venue. I'd pay that at the drop of a (porkpie) hat.

Went to see Rufus Wainwright TWICE with MRS-Speed...now if THAT'S not love, I don't know what is

Hearing Tom growl for a couple of hours would be no hardship...especially as she put up with coming to see Ace Frehley with me :D

So any more news on UK dates or is it looking increasingly likely that Ireland will be the closest gig?

I'm keeping my eye (ho ho) on this blog for info on the Dublin date:
http://www.eyeballkid.blogspot.com

Wish he would play up north, I ******* hate travelling to Dublin for gigs. There's also rumours it's going to be in a tent in Phoenix Park, which sounds like crap to be honest.

ian turner
08-05-2008, 20:00
quit complaining. Compared to the distance a scottish fan would have to travel yours is a short trip down country lanes. Note that the last european tour was 8 dates in 2004 so wishing waits will simply play in the same country is being optimistic

hope he plays more dates but as others have said.. unlikely.
2 dates dublin and maybe 1-2 london are more likely.

See. Said you'd be lucky if he played your country.
3 in Dublin, 2 in Spain and a handful of other dates (The UK gig may involve a fair amount of driving unless you're a local since its in Edinburgh). Waits following an eclectic schedule. No indication of ticket price until hmm a weeks time

edinburgh is only £75-£95...

so factor in a bus/ train or car driving up, hotel, probably works out cheaper... (I have family in edinburgh & glasgow so a little bit easier).

tip for anyone going and trying to trim costs a bit - you can get some cheap rooms in edinburgh if you go for student or backpacker places, £25-40 a night right in the city centre, shared kitchen and bathrooms.

still a clean bed and a place to crash at the end of the night.

they're not cheap though are they?

when I think how many gigs I could go to that for locally, probably 6-7 x2?

great that its stopped touting, but naff that the prices are so high (because of this?)..

they are higher than leonard cohen or neil young of a similar ilk.

the seating plan is up at ticketmaster.ie (wasn't loading for me earlier)

http://www.ticketmaster.ie/seatingchart/198461/11983

Dublin tented seating is one huge block of 30 or so rows in the middle, 72 seats wide, then three tiered blocks, block B at the back (27 rows, 105 seats per row) and two blocks either side also tiered (blocks C & D - 11 rows, 39 seats per row)

So i'm in row C, seat 7, so off to the left, but near the front, which will do me :)

So MrSpeed - were you out of breath later on that night?!

MrsSpeed - TBH, doubt he'll play Heart of Saturday night. From set lists i have seen over the last few years, he doesn't play a lot of his older stuff. The odd one here and there, but not that often.
The Hammersmith gig, he didn't even have a piano until the (long) encore
I always hope he plays 'Kentucky Avenue' or 'Take it with me' - we'll see.
<strike>He did play a beautiful rendition of 'Briar and the Rose' at Hammersmith</strike> - no he didn't, it was 'the house where nobody lives' i was thinking of! - Doh!

I've long been a figure of ridicule in my family for liking Tom... I've played him so much over the years that my brother and sister not only love him too, but when we're together we all sing like him.... in fact we made up a song about wheelchair spokes... and sing it like ahem.. him.
I'm so excited. SO EXCITED, I can't talk about it in case it doesn't happen.

I'm holding out for anything off The Heart of Saturday... But then.... whatever he does - its will be just sheer genius.... Sigh

Yeah, I got back yesterday morning too, as we got on the sleeper straight after the gig. I was a little zombiefied yesterday due to the lack of sleep.

It was a magnificent experience! Tom is an incredible showman - I knew this already, but he just blew my mind live. It was a little piece of heaven, and everything I could have hoped for from a gig. Great sound too. Took Tom a couple of songs for his vocals to warm, but all the old favourites were in there (well, with his prolific output, there are always a few more that you could hope for - but I can't complain at all!)

Outstanding in every sense of the word. I'm still buzzing from the fact I got to see one of my all time heroes. :notworthy

Oh crap, we didn't see any sellers outside. :suspect: Mind you, we were hot footing it to get the last train.

The official t-shirts were £15 and the unofficial outside were £10.

Posters and the booklet were both £5 each.

I got a poster (fiver) and a booklet (fiver), I'm gonna get the poster and ticket framed

Oh, and one of those Healing the Divide (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=8&url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000R7GJO2/thedvdforums-21) CDs (eight quid). Which they were touting as tour exclusives. Hmm...

The shirts didn't fit me :(
I have to get XXL at least. Shame... I wanted everyone to know I'd been :)
Still, they weren't exactly 'tour' shirts

I'm usually a Large and it didn't fit me. Luckily i bobbed into the Gents and tried it on and realized this so swapped for an XL - perfect fit.

The posters are cool.

What are we talking about the merch for though?!?!? He was fantastic! What a guy, what a gig. This and Len Cohen in one month - astonishing, really.

Way too soon to dissect it, I'm still getting goosebumps thinking about it.

Listening to Lucinda as I type. Man, I LOVE that song

Yeah, I took my poster to a friends today with the very intention of getting it framed, as he has a lovely little independent framers near him, who are very reasonable. But they happen to be closed Wednesdays for some reason. So I left it with him, and I'll take it in next time I go visit. I was wondering weather to get the ticket framed with it.

I always buy XL t-shirts, and wear them baggy as i'm skinny, but went for a Large instead, as the last time I bought an XL tour shirt it was huge. Just tried it, and it is a tight fit - even on me. Ahh well, I'll stretch it out a bit.

Oh, and I got one of those 'tour exclusive' CD's too. Cheeky beggers. ;)

No search but very strict inside.

Lots of folks getting pulled about taking pictures. Oh, and there were a few signs up too.

Those of you who know Mr Speeds taste in music, will know he listens to Kiss... and maybe some other bands from 1982...

But he actually enjoyed Tom.

He genius can reach even Kiss fans.... WHAT a guy....

My sister still isn't talking to me because I saw him and she didn't. I'm seriously thinking of telling her I ran to the front and licked his hand.

Did you see me? I was the one who floated out on a cloud of pink sparkles.....

doesn't seem to have been posted anywhere, but 2 CD of "Glitter & Doom" tour is out on November 24th.

new Tom Waits website has an 8 track starter if you sign up too.

http://www.tomwaits.com/news/article/61/Tom_Waits_Debuts_Official_Site_038_Previews_Live_Album/

site looks nice, loads of info and photos too.

2nd CD is the interlude / humour bits.

MartinC
16-10-2009, 23:01
yes, site is great now, think it only relaunched on Monday although ironic its selling some of the unofficial CDs that TW hates, used songs for example.

live album has been confirmed for 3-4 weeks though, source of all good info as always at http://eyeballkid.blogspot.com/

registering to get first 8 tracks for free is nice though.

not sure if the NPR radio whole concert is still online (yes it is, streaming at least), that was lovely, 20-25 tracks in great quality.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=92916923

the download is in the podcasts somewhere if you subscribe to the rss feed, probably direct download if you dig a bit.

I haven't looked at Eyeballkid for weeks, I'm slipping :(

Still, my life hasn't quite been a 'Tom free zone' as I've just about finished reading Innocent when you Dream and my Bone Machine CD has been in the car for around two weeks.

Thanks for the heads up
