They've done it again then - another BRILLIANT album.

I've read that this may be their last, so enjoy them while they're around.

Why the last?

Mr Majestik

Last 'proper' physical CD. (Although there's a B sides album on the way.)

Then it's download ep's and singles.

That's good news - 'Lucky With Disease' was one of their finest songs but inexplicably not an album track...

A solid 9/10 (http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3020189) over at DiS

"It’s an easy phrase to utter, but Elbow are one of the finest bands in the world right now."

Can't argue with that.

Jazzatola

I picked this up on Monday. I've never heard Elbow until now and on first impressions they sounded a bit like Coldplay to me. Not a good thing really. But the more I listen to it, it starts to remind me more of bands like Talk Talk. Seems like there's a lot going on under the surface. Could be a grower.

I take it this is typical for them?

Mr Majestik

A million times better than the Coldplays and Snow Patrols of the world.

No - it's just some extra artwork. There is an additional track but that's also on the standard version.

I'm shocked to hear that their song 'Grounds For Divorce' was by them , been hearing that song played everyday at work on radio 1 and just assumed it was by Gnarls Barkley. It's very upbeat and doesn't sound like Elbow's previous songs.

Funny story about Elbow, I bought their first Ep on CD and the songs on there were very catchy rock pop oriented, which i thought was great, so i decided to check them out Live but was shocked to hear them sound a lot different from the Ep which was more like Doves/Coldplay. Turns out the Ep I had was by a band called Tahiti 80 and somehow their album got onto Elbow's Ep. I wrote to the record company and they replied saying they would replace my Cd with the proper one so i sent it off to them but never received my replacement :(

Not sure if my CD is dodgy or if this is some new type of copy protection but I can't seem to rip it to my PC. The first track is essentially the whole album and the second track comes up as 1500 min long or something and thereafter the rest are fine...:?:

Does anyone have any ideas?

UPDATE: The problem seems to be the first cda file has a track length of 49:58 and the second one has a length of 15906:37:06 in its properties but it won't let me edit this to tell it how long these tracks should last. I might send this back to Play...

Seriously THE best album of the year so far. They just know how to produce music don't they. Mate was telling me that they did it all on their own, no producer or fancy rubbish just them being sure about what they do best. Truly outstanding album.

I have exactly the same problem, 1st 2 tracks won't rip, and have the same bizarre lengths! I've spent all evening trying to fix this and will now take the CD back and try HMV. Rebooted the box, reconnected stuff and still wouldn't work, strange that it was just Elbow though.

Hoping it was just an issue for me at that time, will try again this evening.

Hi Francis,

my contact at Virgin tells me this is a current bug with some Virgin+ set top boxes, in that some interactive services lose their audio completely or intermittently.

I have logged a complaint with them.

Did you call them the complain? If not then ring the Virgin call centre on 0845 454 1111 or http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/contact/service-fault.php. Let me know if you get a reference number. The more people who ring the more chance they'll fix it.

From Elbow site :
We have been notified that Trinity Street, the providers of the official
elbow online store have ceased trading.

We are currently investigating any outstanding purchases/ pre-orders
and will ensure these are honoured.

This may take a little time so if you have made an order that you have
not yet received, please do bear with us.

Doh, guess it was funded by Worldpay, they may or may not be good in the event of Administration !! They should have gone through hmv in the first place boo

I got an email yesterday about the boxset, having ordered direct. The text reads:

For those of you who ordered the boxset via the original Trinity Street pre-order, your orders will be dispatched as normal on the release date of 30th March.

The original Trinity Street pre-orders are now being handled by another party - not HMV - so please do not direct any inquiries about these original orders to HMV.

We apologise for any inconvience but we assure all Elbow fans that their orders will be fulfilled as originally planned. Thanks for bearing with us.

I've just checked HMV and they're now listing the box set at £19.95...
