I've seen plenty of posts recommending buying a US PS3 to play Region A Blu Ray but has anyone had any experience of this firm's products and upgrades.

http://www.dvdlibrary.co.uk/multiregion.htm

Would welcome any comments as I'm now ready to jump in to HD but will mainly want to import US discs.

Thanks

The shop's just down the road from where I work! Never see anyone in there, but they must do pretty good business as I often see a delivery van there!
Been open a fair few years now & there isn't what I would call a huge amount of display stock in there as its only a small shop.

I'd be wary, I believe there are mod chips for a couple of players but with firmware updates so frequent they could soon stop working again. For a US bd player an american ps3 is still the obvious choice.

In fact looking at that site most of the upgrades to bd players appear to be multiregion chips for standard dvd. On top of that..

"Panasonic BLURAY disc player, DMPBD10, UK MODELS, Upgrade no longer works on these due to panasonic firmware upgrade removing our hack!"

would almost certainly make me improt a player rather than getting a warranty voiding hack that could be obsolete at any time.

When I get a second PS3 it will probably be a US machine...

Well I believe the mod chips allow you to turn your machine into whichever region with a touch of a button. So you've got a region A machine one minute, and then a region B machine the next, then back again. Presumably it's firmware proof. Of course it's probably best to wait for a 1.1 or 2.0 player then you don't need to bother with firmware updates anymore.
