Stupid mistake to make in a country with such medieval laws, I've no idea why anyone would want to go to Dubai anyway! I feel more sorry for the guy who got four years for carrying .0002 gms though, that amount could have easily landed on his clothing from a passing joint smoker.

Dubai is a playground for rich people to go diamond shopping and pay £30 for a cup of tea in a 7-star hotel. That'll be why he was there.

I think four years is pretty fair, considering it's a just punishment for being THAT idiotic. You can get jail time for taking codeine into Dubai, let alone da herb.

Probably because his real name is Raymond. Not everyone loves Raymond.

His name is just a brand. Would any kids by a CD with Raymond Bingham on the cover? I also don't think anyone would spend a fortune going to a concert by Mick Jagger and the Pensioners.

A few years ago when I used to DJ a bit ,I actually met "Raymond" a few times and he was always less than civil. In the scene this was nothing strange and I myself have been thought of as an arrogant ****** many times. The problem and beauty of the drum and bass culture at the time ,was that it was a direct reaction to the more glamorous and supposedly "fake" house music genre that was charming clubland and the music press.In those days mixmag did not have a drum and bass section!
You had to be harsh to get any kind of respect.
D&B was all about the attitude and unfortunately certain characters got caught up in believing their own hype.

On the one hand this gets him treated like royalty at certain venues as a DJ but on the other he will now do a 4 year stretch for being an arrogant sod who must have known better.
I was shocked when I first heard the news but pretty disappointed that anyone could be so stupid

because its a fantastic place to go on holiday,
amazing food, people, buildings you could not have imagined! scorching sun etc
trust me, it is a truly amazing place
If you ever get the chance to go.......go

As an aside, I remember being at a club in Brixton and a door near the DJ booth swung open randomly. In the scant few seconds it was open, I was treated to the sight of Carl Cox's big black bum thrusting twixt the legs of some club skank.

It's indellible. I can still see it when I close my eyes, like staring at the sun too long.
