View Full Version : Album tracks that have seeped into the mainstream
I was listening to She's Electric by Oasis the other day and it got me thinking. It was never released as a single and got very little airplay, yet everybody seems to know the words and sings along when it gets played in bars etc.
Obviously it helps that it came of a hugely popular and big selling album, but it's odd that it is as well known, if more well known, than many other Oasis 'hits' such as Dya Know What I Mean?
Anyone else got any examples of songs that were never released as singles but have ended up being as big or even bigger than things the band released on 7 inch/

Well, the Jam's That's Entertainment was never released as a UK single - only being available on the Sound Affects LP or an import 7" - yet it still made the chart and is one of their most famous songs.
(I think it was re-released much later, after the band split)

I suppose any of the big Led Zepplin songs seeing as they never released a single.
Most Beatles lp tracks are more well known than most big No1's.

They did in the states though ;)
Oasis' "Acquiesce" (although that was technially a b-side)

Rolling Stones Sympathy for the Devil leaps to mind (ignoring the recent pointless release of it)
Blondie's "One way or another"
Pink Floyd's Money is a good example - any TV programme looking at financial matters usually gives it a spin!

Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
Maybe his most famous wasn't a single in the UK

It was a single in the UK - just didn't do very well. Got to about No. 45 I think.
It is strange how it's become such a mainstay of Uk radio though.

'Summer of '69' is a mainstay of "the better music mix" though.
