Strange how in their prime Rage against the machine were always a late afternoon main stage band and now they've been away for a bit there headliners.

I liked them at the time, but I recently saw some footage from an outdoor fest circa 94 (?) and by gum it was ponderous.
The Pigeon Detectives are frighteningly high up that bill. And Panic at the Disco reassuringly low down.

.
Seen RatM at a couple of festivals. It was like watching a socialist worker seller having a breakdown for an hour.
I'd imagine if you swap RatM for Muse then you'll have the V bill as well.

Do tickets for this go on sale tomorrow?

Tomorrow, 9am.
Weekend camping tickets are going to be given the option of adding Thursday night, in order to ease traffic strain on the Friday.

Crikey that was painless, 2 weekend and camping tickets by 9.02am!
£345 though! ouch
Took me ages to get tickets last year!

yeah , I got mine by 9:05 , pretty painless. Struggled and failed to get the early bird tickets in July last year.

Now sold out
Prodigy and RATM...wish they were at Reading this year :(

Not so sure about that statement, I saw them headline Reading in 1993. Not a massive fan myself.
I got my tickets by 9:08. Pretty easy but seemed to slow down after that!
This is my first time to T in the Park. Anyone know much about the parking and how close it is to the camp sites etc.
Cheers!

Parking isn't that far but if you want to see one of the headline bands then expect a delay of over an hour to get out of the parking site and then further delays trying to navigate the road home.
Not been to T since 2005. Too many neds. This year's line up is pretty awful IMO. Never liked REM or Rage and The Verve are only going to be worth catching if they do a set comprised of A Storm in Heaven and the singles from A Northern Soul which, let's face it, aint gonna happen...

Must have been the year after. (Went to that one too!)

Was thinking the same thing.
Didnt realise Counting Crows are back in the country this year

It was actually the main stage (not the Pyramid, it had just burned down) on the Friday night - quite a gig, as the Levellers were on after.
Glasto 94 is still the best festival i've ever been to.

So, bump...
Was there today (meant to be shooting the event, but that got ****** up), caught Alphabeat, Scouting for Girls, Feeder, and the Chemical Brothers.
Alphabeat were great fun, Scouting for Girls are the worst live act I've ever seen (absolutely no stage presence, ***** music, and terrible, terrible banter with the crowd), Feeder were spectacular (incredible atmosphere, the crowd going totally mental when stuff like Buck Rogers came on - biggest crowd surge I've ever been in), and the Chemical Brothers were blinding too - huge presence for two DJs, thanks to the massive lightshow they have.
Not going back for the rest of the weekend, (was in on a hospitality pass today), but it was good, even though today is a shorter day than the next two. Weather held out too, despite the forecast of rain.
Surely not THE worst act you've ever seen ??! I saw them about a year ago out of curiosity* in a tiny (200 ish venue) and, although I found the album repetitve. I thought as a live act they were very engaging (and was impressed with his keyboard playing). Seemed to have a good/lively rapport with audience, so came away thinking "good luck to them". As each single has been released (and flogged to death on the radio) they've gone down in my estimation though
* Off to see Alphabeat later this year as, even though I found the album as "likeable" (or not) as SFG I think they should be good live too. Who knows
Aren't the Scottish audiences just amazing.........
zzzzzzzzzzzzz........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Christ, every year this is on the bands being inverviewed on the TV / Radio coverage are just asked the same question "What makes the Scottish audiences so amazing?"
Every single time. So they may be more "mental" than English crowds but is there nothing else to talk about.
Must be the cheap Buckfast

First time I've been to T in the Park, but something I noticed is that there are LOADS of chavscum compared to other festivals I've been at. Quite glad I wasn't camping there.
Is this the event that Ginger haired idiot on R2 was going on about yesterday? He mentioned some band was going to be playing Delilah and he thought that Tom Jones might turn up and join in.

Are Alphabeat the band who do that AWFULversion of Public Image?
As for the Chemicals, I've seen them many times over the years, and they never disappoint.
Chemical Bros don't have decks at their live shows! ;) http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/harrison/370/dustgear.html

What's the TV coverage like for T In The Park? BBC 3 is it?

Only caught the highlights show last night, and watched Feeder back - BBC got all the track names mixed up, and mis-spelled one too!

And no mention of Snake Derrick, although to be fair they probably wouldn't have known who it was
And thinking about it, if you remember how the BBC treated Metallica at Live Earth I dread to think how bad the Reading coverage is going to be - I can't see Slipknot getting a look in at all :(
Drysolder
12-07-2008, 17:38
Rubbish.
What annoys me more is the coverage is confined to Beeb Scotland, and not all the regions - surely just because the festival's in Scotland doesn't means the rest of the country isn't interested?
Typical BBC.

Just read something from an NME photographer - Rage are allowing NO photographers for their set, even the BBC. As far as I can tell, that extends to TV coverage too, which is a ******* disgrace.
Oh, and way too much of this coverage is random, irrelevant ***** that's not music coverage. "Pimp my tent" - seriously, **** off.
Leonard Cohen said no cameras at Glasto. He said it was cos he had no new material to promote and the cameras would have been a distraction. Bless
downhillbiker
12-07-2008, 19:10
As far as I'm concerned, if you're at a festival, you should accept that you will be photographed and filmed. Seriously, if you are a musician and get distracted by photographers who are 15ft+ away from you at all times, then you really have issues.
The Rage thing doesn't seem like that to me... stinks of ego, either on the part of the band, or their management.
Drysolder

BBC Scotland is available on Virgin and Sky in England, in case people didn't know.
Which isn't the point, the event is only being promoted on Scotland, the only way you'd know about the coverage would be to visit the BBC website and see the small print under the timings for the channel numbers.

No worries. Finding it hard to enjoy the coverage knowing they're not showing the Saturday night (i.e. main) headliner.
EDIT: Rage photos are appearing online, so I guess the photographers were allowed in - still nothing from the Beeb though.
FURTHER EDIT: BBC have made a statement on it...
**MESSAGE TO THE FANS FROM A HUMBLE BBC PORTAKABIN AT BALADO*
We are truly sorry that we are unable to broadcast any footage at all of Rage Against The Machine. The band's management have not given us permission to do so. Most of the website team are actually fans of the band ourselves and would love to let you all see them! The best we can do is give you a photo gallery, which is coming soon....sorry again.
Rage allowed us to shoot in the end but no ladders and they wanted no bags at the front of the stage!!!!

Did they do this at any other festival since reforming, as they've gone down in my estimation; they'll allow their songs to be sold to 'the man' at Activision for a game, but not allow the thousands of fans who couldn't get to T to see them live... Lunacy if it really is RATM at work here, and not some excuse by the BBC...

What was that about chavs? Stabbing http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/tayside_and_central/7503891.stm
TiTP has always been ned-tastic unfortunately, inside the actual arena its fine but the campsite can be a bit of a pain and also outside in the car-parks you get all the wee neds who haven't got a ticket hanging around swigging Buckie
Only thing that would have got me to T this year would have been if Elbow had played

Coverage isn't great to be honest... There's something about T in the Park on telly that makes it seem like a wee pokey festival - probably due to the fact they only seem to acknowledge three stages exist in their coverage (Main, NME/Radio1, King Tuts).
And, to go back to it, they didn't have the Saturday night headliners, which is really poor. They seem to have taken the polite British angle of not mentioning why they're not covering them too...
I dread to think how bad the Reading coverage is going to be
Slightly OT but is it likely any Reading/Leeds coverage will be broadcast this year? Who would handle it? BBC?, CH4?

BBC again i believe.
From the wee bit I watched Winehouse didn't seem as out of it as she did at Glasto, tho going by her eyes and nostrils I think she was coke'd up and once again all presenters were totally fawning over her performace

I went up for the Sunday's entertainment - Winehouse mumbled her way through another set, biggest audience of the weekend must have been for The Ting Tings as you could barely get near the tent let alone in it. Seasick Steve was tremendous, Kings of Leon were pretty good too, but jeeeeeesus REM absolutely tore the place up. They were on fantastic form sounding like a band half their age - Stipe was clearly having a laugh (swapping hats with the front row), the setlist was a heady mix of old and new (Ignoreland!) and rarely put a foot wrong. Storming.
I'm sure the footage will pop up somewhere - a brilliant show.

REM's set will be on the red button on Friday I think.
Excellent.
I thought Amy MacDonald was quite good on last nights coverage.
Just got back from this, my first time at a festival! Was great, thankfully the weather held as I think it coulda been a whole different story when knee deep in mud. There was a fair amount of neds about but tbh they weren't as bad as I expected and as for the 1 unfortunate guy that was stabbed, I'd say given there were around 80k people there, that's surprisingly little trouble. It's a horrible fact, but in any city in the UK there's probably a tenth of the number out in town on a Saturday night and probably 10 times more trouble.
Amy Winehouse was a joke though. Whilst I'm not particularly a fan, I was hoping to be blown away but this talent everyone keeps saying she's wasting. She just mumbled her way through the whole thing, forgetting she had to be at hands length of the microphone. I don't know where she was but it sure wasn't T in the Park. Funnily, she didn't forget to step back when she had to snort though :nono:
Prodigy were ace at the end up, finishing with Out of Space - was just disappointed there wasn't more old school stuff!
Anyway, away to to some things I haven't done in 3 days - wash, a poo, drink a (non-alchoholic) beverage and sleep.
