View Full Version : HTC Touch Dual, any users?
So it doesnt look like i can get a Tytn II through work and the P3600 replacement is going to be the HTC Touch Dual. Popped down to the local orange shop to have a peek, but its only a dummy model and they wouldnt break one out of the box.
So if anyone has one, how do you find it, functionality wise, hows the keyboard? Is the lack of wi-fi a pain?
Thanks

We've got some here from T-Mobile, who are bizarrely calling it the Touch Plus rather than the Touch Dual, and I was impressed. It's like the Touch but with just enough buttons to make it still quite phone-like, so it works for any user without making them take the whole smartphone plunge, which we've found some users struggling to do.
I've been through the full set of T-Mobile smartphones including the TyTn II (which they call an MDA Vario III), while the Vario III was fantastic, to be honest after a few days I never used the full keyboard, and I rarely used the wifi either, since T-Mobile has a decent theoretically-unlimited data package there's no need to. The only place I could see myself using Wifi is when abroad so as to sync without paying high roaming data charges. In reality when abroad I just cut the sync down to manual and the transfer was small enough that it cost me less than £1/day. So when I get around to it I'm going to get a Touch Plus (Dual!) for myself.
interesting viewpoint, seems to make a lot of sense :) Wasnt sure if wifi would be an issue or not, but thinking about it there really isnt an issue.
My Kaiser's (Vario 3) just gone on ebay, so I'm toying with the idea of getting one of these.
There are a few reports of bugs and things over on certain forums that I find a little off-putting...
Really not sure which way to jump next though :(
forgot to ask, does this unit come with a virtual QWERTY keyboard as seen here?

If it does i think im sold.
Good review here if anyone wants one;

Leigh - that's HTC's keyboard, and it should be on the device out of the box. That's the 20 key version, there's also a 16 key T9 style version.
Got a Touch Plus last week from T-mobile. Very happy with it.
Last phone was a Vario that was running WM6.
Touch flow is good and the screen is very nice to read.
Runs tomtom so im happy.
Not to bothered about Wifi since i rarely used it. More interested in the 3G/HSDPA(sp) side of things for push email.
And when you plug it into a pc running Vista, Windows Mobile Data centre shows a nice pretty pic of the Touch Dual when it fires up Activesynch.

Thanks for the heads up, not sure which one we are getting at work (20 key or 16)

Anyone heard anything about the availability of the Touch Dual on O2? Nothing on their website as of yet, but there are news stories on the internet from January suggesting it's "coming".
I've just watched a couple of YouTube videos that have put me off.
One of which: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHOS7tE3AZM&feature=related
Seems like the Touch Dual has the same laggy performance as my Kaiser did.
What apps are running at the time? (Cant view youtube from the office)
Right, have looked at the video and to be honest for the amount of time im going to surf the web on a phone i dont think its an issue with the slow scrolling up and down the webpage :)
Fair enough, I do quite a bit of browsing on my phone. Plus, I've been irritated by my Kaiser, so am more likely to notice stuff like that.
To be honest, I'm still tempted to go for the Touch Dual, as I can't find many people who're annoyed by it at all.
Still waiting for out IT bods to get it on the system here so i can order one! If you get one let us know (and vice versa) :)
